From The President’s desk---

Just 3 months – April, May and June – are left for the end of the Rotary Year 2011-12. Club Programs and Activities for March

Women’s Day Celebration International Women's Day (8th March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Every year all lady members of RCMM make it point to meet together and celebrate the day. This year we decided to do differently, going to a farm house and also inviting male members to join us in celebration. It was a great outing, to be with nature. Day’s Experience as narrated by Rtn. Pradeep Patole ………………………. The dawn of 8th March in all ways was different. I could feel the child like excitement and enthusiasm as I walked towards the bus. This expression reflected on every RCMM members, who were entering the bus. WE were off to Rohinirupa Farm at Vasai for a picnic. Once settled we could hear the increasing voices and laughter from all parts of bus. I then realized how soothing the effects of joyous moments are as I too joined in the fun. As bus took the momentum so did our musical chords and echo of our collective singing accompanied by all beats of djembe enthusiastically played by Kishore. Beats were still ringing in our ears when suddenly bus came to halt, we had reached our destination. On reaching Rohinirupa farms, we were treated to a hot breakfast of Poha, Wadas, & omelettes along with refreshing tea and coffee. All were charged up and we took a walk around farm appreciating greenery, natural beauty and serenity. The day was special in two ways, firstly it was holi day, our hearts were soaked in the colours of togetherness and secondly it was a women’s day more special as these women had brought so many colours into the lives of their families. Then started rounds of games designed especially for the men (may be to rag us!). We were little uneasy, but showed a bold face. We had to compete with each other by applying nail polish, giving foot massage and decorating forehead with small bindis of our spouses. Though it was awkward initially, slowly everyone started enjoying it. After the rib tickling exploits of the men, where everyone present laughed their hearts out, we settled down and relaxed to a glass of beer followed by a truly delicious lunch. During this time we were treated to some heart warming Gazals by Manoj, and old hindi film songs from others. Uma’s enchantment of skit was captivating and after this fulfilling session of relaxing, it was time to return. As we settled in the comforts of the bus, I realized the importance of such outings. Whole day was very satisfying, along with likeminded people who were compassionate, caring, concerned and fully geared to serve the needs of the society and to bring some meaning to these lives and to those of others.

Felicitations A felicitation is expressing a congratulatory emotion to someone. It depicts the persons strengths, accomplishments and gives best wishes to them. At RCMM, we believe in encouraging the achievers.

Rtn. Anand is successfully driving ‘India Printing Works’ for so many years. He has taken over India Printing House from his father and further developed it to take to heights where it stands today. He was President of Mumbai Mudrak Sangh for two terms and President of Maharashtra Mudran Parishad for three terms. Today ‘India Printing Work’ completes 80 years. In recognition of Rtn. Anand’s continuous effort to offer services from ‘concept to printing’ and bringing in right blend of modernization, RCMM felicitated Rtn. Anand by giving Ganesh Murthy and a coconut. WE wish him many more successful years in his endeavor.

Madhur, son of Rtn. Sunita has made his mark in the field of Music. As Rtn. Vidula describes in his early childhood he was like any other child and suddenly as he grew his interest in music increased along with his urge of creativity. Today he has bagged the award of best music direction in the youth festival. He was felicitated in hands of President Suryakumar by giving token of appreciation – citation and a small gift. WE wish him very successful years to come and his progress graph always moves upwards.

Rtn. Vinayak on Life at Air Force Rtn. Vinayak shared his experience during his Indian Air Force service. He has served as an Airman as a combatant service personal during 1963 to 1972.He elaborated & gave a thrilling experience to club audience on what is a life of a defence service personal during active services. His experience on the war front in 1965 & 1971 Indo pak war glued the audience. During 1971 war, the 10 days period on the war front was like a living experience to all. The bombing of enemy Bombers, the destruction & damage they caused to the establishments, the burning & explosions of the bombs & aircrafts, the death of his colleagues he had faced, seen & felt made all of us to experience the death & it's feelings. The story of removing dead body of the pilot & his accident in the midnight of war days was really thrilling. Without participating in the actual war, the club members experienced as if they are in the mid of it. All the club members applauded his service to the nation & were happy to see the war medals he has received for his active participation in the Indo Pak war. We, all Rotarians, are proud to have Vinayak , a strong soldier with us.

Shukria Party by IPP Vidya “Winners don’t do different things. They do things differently.”® - SHIV KHERA Perhaps that is the best way to describe the shukriya party of IPP Vidya Kulkarni held at her ancestral bungalow in Pune on 31Mar 2012. Meticulous planning, continuous follow-up and immaculate execution were the key factors for the grand success of this shukriya party with a difference. Continuing her characteristic style of involving everyone in various Rotary Projects during her tenure, Vidya ensured that even at her shukriya party there was role for everyone. From singing to sharing great moments in their life, the members enthusiastically participated in all the events. In her address, she spoke about her view-point about her tenure’s success – she said, though she started her tenure with anxiety, as the time passed by things unfolded and path became smooth only due to ‘piece of advice by some members, removal of hurdles by some members, alert signal given by some, and the year went like blink of eye and enriched her with memorable experiences. Swati, treasurer for 2010-11 put forward emotional recounting of all the great achievements during the tenure including DG’s Appreciation Award for exemplary commitment, total dedication and outstanding contribution to Team 2010-11 in making the Rotary year a stupendous success and also reiterated and thanked support of everyone for organizing an impressive seminar on ‘Global Warming – Awareness to Action’ which was attended by DG Dr. Jayant, DGE Vijay and DGN Bal besides various District Dignitaries and included signing of a ‘Charter’ to combat Global Warming by more than 15 clubs in the District.

Weekly Meeting in Progress

The orchestra for the music program was arranged through Jitendra from Pune. Besides our club’s regular singers like Pradeep Patole, Kishore, Manoj, Neelima, Prakash and Uma Sahasrabudhe there were many debutants including Sandhya, SV and Anand who rendered a melodious number from the film ‘Mera Naam Joker’. The music program continued after an intermission of 45 minutes for drinks and starters. Towards the end Jitendra gave few numbers of Kishore Kumar in a medley form and it was outstanding. Jitendra is truly Kishore Kumar reincarnated!!. The dinner spread was mouth watering and personal hospitality of Vidya and Vijay (ably supported by Shobha, Swati and Pratibha) further added to its taste.

One of the highlights of the evening was an extempore inter-active session by Rtn. S. Venkateswaran (‘SV’ for short) and the topic was – ‘Measuring Happiness and its relevance to Rotary’(*). The timing of this half an hour session was 10 minutes past midnight when the participants had enough of their drinks and dinner. Contrary to general expectations, the participation during the interactive session was so vibrant that it proved all cynical minds wrong. SV has a flair of invoking responses from everyone and led to a unanimous conclusion that the ‘happiness is certainly greater in its intensity when we involve ourselves in making others happy, a phenomenon he proved using a principle from Physics! All participants gave a spontaneous applause to SV when his session concluded within the allotted time of 30 minutes. (* as at the time of writing this report, 4 other clubs in the District have requested SV to run this program in their weekly club meetings! Congrats SV !!)

Everyone Enjoying Dinner on Open Deck

The entire shukriya party would not have commenced, continued and concluded well but for total dedication and sincerity shown by Swati Yende who was given the charge of compeering the program from the start till the end. Kudos to Swati! Members reluctantly left the party venue at around 3 am carrying with them a thoughtful personalized memento handed over by Vidya in appreciation of their continued support.

Good fellowship and friendship are lasting, rational and manly pleasures.

One of the signs of passing youth is the birth of a sense of fellowship with other human beings as we take our place among them.” Fellowship is heaven, and lack of fellowship is hell; fellowship is life, and lack of fellowship is death; and the deeds that ye do upon the earth, it is for fellowship's sake that ye do them.”
