MAHATMA GANDHI AS MY IDEAL OF LIFE
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in
Porbandar, India. He became one of the most respected spiritual and political
leaders of the 1900's. Gandhi is honored by his people as the father of the Indian
Nation. The Indian people called Gandhi Mahatma, meaning Great Soul. The
wind of change brought about by this formidable leader has touched every
aspect of Indias citizens life.
The underlying principle in Gandhis principle base on www.wikipedia.comis truth , nonviolence , vegetarianism , brahmacharya , simplicity and faith.
Gandhi dedicated his life to the wider purpose of discovering truth, orSatya.
Gandhi summarized his beliefs first when he said "God is Truth". He would later
change this statement to "Truth is God". Thus, truth (Satya) in Gandhi's
philosophy is "God". Mahatama Gandhi with a great deal of success he
introduced a method of non-violence in the Indian struggle for basic human
rights. The idea ofvegetarianism is deeply ingrained in Hindu and Jain traditions
in India, and, in his native land ofGujarat, most Hindus were vegetarian and so
are all Jains. The Gandhi family was no exception. In bramacharya principle,
Gandhi saw brahmacharya as a means of becoming close with God and as a
primary foundation for self realization. Gandhi earnestly believed that a person
involved in social service should lead a simple life which he thought could lead to
Brahmacharya. So that He called it "reducing himself to zero". I Faith in God am,
according to Gandhi, the foundation of all moral values. He never defined God
and was prepared to allow every person to have his own idea of God.
Based on http://mkgandhi.org./main.html Gandhis philosophy divided into
7 parts. That is search for truth, trust in god, no secrecy, guidance, self sacrifice,
no defeatism and trust. According to Mahatma Gandhi quote on search for truth
is, I am but a seeker after Truth. I claim to have found a way to it. He also

mentioned about trust God in his philosophy. Where, he said "My trust is solely in
God. And I trust men only because I trust God. If I had no God to rely upon, I
should be like Timon, a hater of my species. Moreover, in no secrecy
philosophy, Gandhi claimed that his life has been an open book and there have
no secrets and I encourage no secrets. He also claims to have no infallible
guidance or inspiration as his philosophy. In self sacrifice philosophy Gandhi
quote is I am asking my countrymen in India to follow no other gospel than the
gospel of self-sacrifice which precedes every battle. Other than that, for no
defeatism Gandhi said Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me.... I
know that God will guide me. Truth is superior to man's wisdom. For trust
Gandhi stressed that he believe in trusting. Trust begets trust. Suspicion is foetid
and only stinks. God who trusts has never yet lost in the world.
Gandhis contribution towards the world and his country is civil rights
movement in South Africa (18931914), role in Zulu War, struggle for Indian
Independence (19161945), non-cooperation, Swaraj and the Salt Satyagraha
(Salt March) and also World War II and Quit India. This contribution is based on
information in http://www.veropedia.com .
As a conclusion, Mahatma Gandhi was socially a universal human and a
revolutionary, and today he is beyond freedom of India, beyond religion, beyond
the traditions he inherited and the fads he cherished. We should take a great
lesson from his secular approach to life and promote social reforms to build a
better individual and to cultivate an awareness and interaction among individuals
that will lead to mutual co-operation for a better society. Gandhi's revolutionary
approach has not been given a fair trial. Let us do it.
