  • havan conducted a national conference on Veda Samvada, an Bintroduction to the various aspects of Vedas and their relevance in the modern society during June 2013 which was

followed by the conference on Upanishad Sandesha, the message

in the Upanishads during June/July 2014, both conferences jointly

conducted with ISKCON, Bengaluru at the Multi-Vision Theatre in

the premises of ISKCON, Bengaluru. Bhavan intends to continue

this exposition of sacred texts of this holy country to our youth. The

theme contemplated for the next conference will be the Message of

Puranas which is being held from 23rd to 27th June 2015.

The Puranas, as they are well known, are post-Vedic texts

alongside some Jain and Buddhist religious texts, which typically

contain a complete narrative of the history of the Universe from

creation to destruction, genealogies of the kings, heroes and

demigods, and descriptions of Hindu cosmology and geography.

According to Matysa Purana, they are said to narrate ve subjects,

called Pancha Lakshana ("ve distinguishing marks", though some

scholars have suggested that these are shared by other traditional

    religious scriptures):

1.Sarga: the creation of the universe.

2.Pratisarga: secondary creations, mostly re-creations after

    dissolution.

3.Vama: genealogy of the gods and sages.

4.Manvatara: the creation of the human race and the rst

human beings. The epoch of the Manus' rule, 71 celestial

    Maha Yugas.

5.Vamnucaritam: the histories of the patriarchs of the lunar

    and solar dynasties.

The Puranas were written to popularise the message of the Vedas.

They contain the essence of the Vedas. The aim of the Puranas is to

impress on the minds of the masses the teachings of the Vedas and

to generate in them devotion to God, through concrete examples,

myths, stories, legends, lives of saints, kings and great men,

allegories and chronicles of great historical events. The Puranas

were meant, not for the scholars, but for the ordinary people who

could not understand high philosophy and who could not study the

    Vedas.

In view of this, it is felt that this conference would be useful to the

society and serve the cause, Bhavan has stood for, viz., spreading

the message of our sacred texts to the coming generations.
