Important Central &State Government offices and institutions arelocated in Nagpur. Industrial Development isexisting along the fringe areas like Kamptee,Hingna, Wadi, Khapri, Butibori and Kalmeshwar.Nagpur is 837 km. From Mumbai, 1094 Km southof Delhi, 1092 km north of Chennai and 1140 kmwest of Calcutta. Nagpur district lies between20.35 to 21.44 North Latitude and 78.15 to 79.40East Longitude.
Coal reserves have been found in the North-Westbelt of the district i.e. from Saoner to Kanhan (Kamptee apart from the high coal found in umrertahsil). Nagpur district is richly endowed withManganese Ore and the district is well placed inthe country as far as production of Manganese oreis concerned. Manganese ore is found particularlyin Ramtek and Saoner tahsils. Good qualitylimestone is found in Kandri and Deolapar, Micaand Tungsten are also found in the district. Thesand from Kanhan River is considered to be of highquality as far as the construction ofbuilding is concerned.

Update on thePerformance ofPorts in the State
Ports
Maharashtra is a leading state in providing physicalinfrastructure to its investors. Along a coast line of720 km, there are two principal ports: MbPT andJNPT. In addition, there are 53 minor ports.
JNPT is the country's largest container port. Theannual cargo handled by MbPT and JNPT is 58.038million tonnes and 64.49 million respectively, forFY13. JNPT has a container terminal, which hasbeen developed through private investment on aBOT basis.
From 2000-2010, the capacity of the JNPT andMbPT ports have increased at CAGR of 15.93 percent and 3.66 per cent respectively.

The state government has decided to developminor ports in the state with the participation ofthe private sector under the control ofMaharashtra Maritime Board. In Phase-I, six minorports are being developed.
The Dhamankhol-Jaigad port has becomeoperational, with two cargo berths in the firstphase. The Dighi port has successfully tested itsfirst stage of commissioning.

Update on theMega Projects inthe State
Mega Projects
The Government of Maharashtra had declaredIndustrial Mega project policy from 2nd June, 2005.The main purpose of this policy has been toattract more investment in state and generatemore employment opportunities as well as tocompete with other state for the leading position,The Mega Project Policy has received atremendous response and has been continued inthe Industrial Policy 2013 as well. Under the MegaProject policy, the Government of Maharashtrahas approved 397 mega projects with aninvestment of INR 3.2l lakh crore and creatingemployment opportunities for 3.53 lac persons.Over 75 per cent of the projects are located in theless industrialized regions of the state, thuspromoting balanced development.
Some of the key highlights in the of the megaprojects investments are as follows —
• Maximum number of Mega Projects are in Pune117
• More than 35 per cent of the projects are inproduction as on Aug 2013
• Maximum investment in the metal and metalproducts sector with investment of 1.01 LakhCrore (31.87 % share)
• Other top sector s include Auto & Autoancillaries at 15.62 % and Coke And RefinedPetroleum Products at 13.3 per cent share
• The top three together constitute 60.8 per centof state’s total mega project investment
• Maximum employment was provided by the‘Textiles & Apparel’ Sector of ~1.19 lakh (ashare of 33.8 per cent)
• Other leading sectors include• Metal & Metal products — 72668 at 20.52 per
cent• Auto & Auto ancillaries — 56865 at 16.06
per cent• Agro processing sector — 25407 at 7.17 per
cent• Out of 397 projects, 300 are in less developed
regions• The less developed regions contribute to the
sum of proposed investments of INR 1.86 lakhcrore and proposed employment to 2.37 lakhpeople
• The D+ regions have received the maximuminterest with 147 projects, giving a employmentto 1.63 lakh people
• Nagpur region has 62 projects in the ‘D+’regions

Cecilia Edebo, vice-president, consumer goods,SCA Hygiene Products India, said the company hadearmarked an investment of nearly INR 200 croreover the next year-and-a-half, to be used in settingup a plant at Ranjangaon, near Pune, besidesforming a sales & marketing team and in pushing itsproducts in the country.
Apart from Libero, which competes in mostmarkets across the world with P&G’s Pampers,Kimberly Clarke’s Huggies and Unicharm’s MamyPoko Pants, will also roll out products such asTena, which operates in the adult diaper andhygiene market, and Tempo, the world’s largestconsumer tissue brand.
Tork, which is into hand sanitisers and otherhygiene products in the institutional segment, hasbeen operational in India for a few years nowthrough the import route.
Ms. Edebo says that the 9.8-billion-euro (or Rs85,000 crore) company will for the next fewquarters import most of its products into thecountry till its plant comes on upstream. “By early2015, our manufacturing facility should be up andrunning,” Edebo says.
The push into emerging markets, Ms. Edeboexplains, is part of SCA’s larger goal of growing itspresence in these areas, which currently are notvery significant contributors to the company’soverall turnover. Bulk of SCA’s revenues comefrom Europe and North & South Americarespectively. “In the last two years, however, wehave identified West Asia, Africa and India asimportant markets and have set up a regional basein Istanbul, Turkey as part of this endeavor,” Ms.Edebo says.
