HISTORY

The mineralization was discovered during road-

building operations in late July, 1967. It was staked By several

members of the road crew; the principal one being the bulldozer

operator and part-time prospector, Nolan Cox.

The claims were acquired by Anglo American Nickel

Mining Corporation, who, during June and July of 1968, carried

out EM and Magnetometer surveys and put down 8 diamond drill

holes for a total of approximately 3,300 feet.

GEOLOGY AND MINERALIZATION

The property is underlain by light gray granite

and granite gneiss with remnant sedimentary bands striking

northeasterly and dipping almost vertically. A major fault

crosses the area in a northwest - southeast direction, A diabase

dike crosses the property southwest of and parallel to the fault,

The mineralization consists of chalcopyrite

associated with pyrite and a little bornite, and has a known

strike length of 800 feet. It occurs in brecciated granite and

sedimentary gneiss with abundant quartz vein filling,This min

eralized zone occurs on the southwest side of the fault and

parallels same. No mineralization has been found on the north

east side of the fault.

The mineralized zone is up to 1.0 feet wide at the

surface. The drill results seem to indicate that this zone widens

at depth, but, this is far from certain. The zone strikes north

west - southeast and dips steeply to the northeast; as estab

lished by geologists. 7 of the 8 holes were set up on the south-

west side of the zone and drilled at an angle of 45 degrees to

the northeast, In effect, these 7 holes were drilled down dip,

and the encouraging widths of copper mineralization could be mis

leading. The lone hole drilled from the northeast side of the

zone towards the southwest did not encounter any copper.

When a diamond drill intersects an ore zone at a

steep angle, it tends to follow the zone down. I believe that

this is actually what happened. Even if the drill had passed

through the zone without deviating, the steep angle of the in

tersection would have given a mineralized core length of sev-

al times the true width.

It would seem desirable to test this hypothesis by

drilling at least one hole from the northeast side of the zone.

This hole could be located between the ore zone and the iault -

there is ample room - and drilled at an angle of 45 degrees

to the southwest.

PRESENT WORK

A grid of approximately 10.6 miles was put in on

8 claims, namely; TB489144-48 incl., RB489150-51 incl., TB489159.

A Proton Magnetometer survey was performed over the entire grid.

A Soil Sampling survey was carried out over only part of it.

This geochemical program was of limited scope, due to the fact

that much of the property is underlain by swamp. However, one

important part of the property - the hoped for northwest extension

of the ore zone along strike - was high and dry and was there

fore v.ery thoroughly tested.

The grid was confined to only 8 claims, as, due

to time and approaching winter weather limitations, it was

considered advisable to concentrate the work on the area of

known mineralization and its possible extension along strike.

The base line was run at 320 degrees and had the

same 0+00 point as the 1968 grid. No sign was seen of this

older grid, except the aforementioned 0+00 point. Although

the former base line supposedly had the same compass bearing

as the present line, it seems from the map that its actual

direction was 330 degrees.

As indicated on the map, the grid does not con

form perfectly to the outline of the claims; some of the lines

extend beyond the claim boundaries. This was done to give con

tinuity to any interesting features that may have appeared on

the magnetometer survey.

These surveys and grid work were performed from Oct. 5, 1983

to Nov. 14, 1983, incl. All work was done by H. T. Nelson.

MAGNETOMETER SURVEY

Although a magnetometer survey, using a portable

fluxgate, had been done on this property during 1968, it was

deemed advisable to redo the area with a proton precession mag

netometer. It was hoped that this instrument, being so much more

sensitive and precise than a portable fluxgate, might detect

some subtle features of the ore zone that had escaped the ear

lier survey.

However, no such luck attended the present survey.

In fact, the whole map, with the exception of the diabase dike,

is remarkably flat and uninteresting. No reaction was noticed

over the known ore zone, nor over the fault.

A strong response, up to 1,000 gammas, was obtained

over a diabase dike about 500 feet southwest of and parallel

to the base line. This dike has been trenched where it crosses

lines 2+00 SE and 3+00 SE at 500 feet SW. Samples of this dia

base were also picked up on other lines to the northwest.

A Geometrics Model G-826 portable proton magnet

ometer was employed for this survey. This instrument is accurate

Page 6: MAGNETOMETER AND GEOCHEMICAL SURVEYS SPIKE LAKE … · lines 2+00 SE and 3+00 SE at 500 feet SW. Samples of this dia base were also picked up on other lines to the northwest. A Geometrics

to plus or minus one gamma, when used with a base station em

ploying a recorder. As a recorder was not available, a base

station was established at 0+00 on the base line. This base

was read frequently during the survey; at least once per hour.

Good luck attended the survey in that the diurnal variations

were minimal during the two days of the survey. The corrected

results are plotted on the accompanying map.

GEOCHEMICAL SURVEY

A program of soil sampling, at 50 foot intervals,

was carried out over the known ore zone and its hoped for ex

tension to the northwest. 50 foot intervals were selected to

give optimum coverage, as the surface showings are so narrow.

The lines were sampled to only 500 feet to the southwest; again

because the zone is so narrow and no mineralization has been

found southwest of the 500 foot area. The swamp, which parallels

the base line on the northeast and crosses the base line at 4+50

SE, prevented sampling of these areas.

Samples were taken from the B horizon, where

possible. At many stations there was very poor soil development,

while at others only fragmented rock. Some stations produced

no soil at all for one of two reasons - outcrop of bare rocks

or deep swamp. A large mattock was used to collect the samples.

A total of 270 samples were taken and assayed.

Page 7: MAGNETOMETER AND GEOCHEMICAL SURVEYS SPIKE LAKE … · lines 2+00 SE and 3+00 SE at 500 feet SW. Samples of this dia base were also picked up on other lines to the northwest. A Geometrics

-7-

Most of the samples were obtained less that l foot

below the surface, but some were as much as 30 inches deep. A

4 foot auger was tried in the swamp, but it proved useless as

the swamp is deep black mud mixed with large rocks.

The geochemical results, as plotted on the accom

panying map, are very disappointing. No copper was detected out

side the known ares of mineralization. Even over the known

zone, the results were very low; a maximum of 40 ppm. This

could mean that the chemical conditions of the soil are such

that transportation and retention of copper in the soil is in

hibited in some way. A more likely explanation is that, except

for the known mineralization, there is no copper in the area.

A few relatively anamalous results were obtained

over the diabase dike, which crosses the propery at 5+00 SW on

all the lines. This was not unexpected, as it was known from

assays that this dike carries traces of copper at some places.

23 ppm of copper was recorded at 4+00 NE on line

0. This sample was taken near the road and was probably con

taminated with material from the ore zone and which was used

for a road base in the swamp.Sometimes, road material gets

quite widely spread by the bulldozer, and I feel sure that

this is the reason for this higher than normal reading.

All in all, the low geochemical values do not

bode well for the property.

Dear Madam:

Enclosed are two copies of a Notice of Intent with statements listing a reduced rate of assessment work credits to be allowed for a technical survey. Please forward one copy to the recorded holder of the claims and retain the other. In approximately fifteen days from the above date, a final letter of approval of these credits will be sent to you. On receipt of the approval letter, you may then change the work entries on the claim record sheets.

For further information, if required, please contact Mr. F.W. Matthews at 416/965-6918.

rMinistryof Notice of Intent NaturalResources for Technical Reports

Ontario1984 05 10

2.6242/1

An examination of your survey report indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on his record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged.

If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application.

If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded.

If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked. The new work breakdowns should be submitted direct to the Lands Management Branch, Toronto. The report will be re-assessed and a new statement of credits based on actual days worked will be issued.

Dear Sir;

Enclosed please find report and maps

in duplicate covering assessment work that I performed on

some mining claims near Nipigon. I am applying for the max

imum of 40 days credit per claim for the magnetometer survey.

- As is noted in my statement of qual

ifications, I have not attended any university or technical

school; but, I feel that my long period of continuous em

ployment in the exploration field has qualified me to write

this report. This is not the first such report that I have

authored, but, it is not possible to obtain a copy of the

few that I have previously written.

I trust that you will look favourably

on my work and that you will judge it solely on its merits.

To Whom It May Concern:

Howard Thomas Nelson now residing at 1402-4th Street N. W., Calgary, Alberta, had worked for Gaspe Copper Mines Exploration, a subsidiary of Noranda Mines over the past 15 years where I held the position of Chief Geologist of exploration in the eastern Quebec area .

He is competent to undertake and interpret magnetometer, geochemical and VLF E.M. surveys, having carried out numerous such surveys while employed under me .

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

This letter is to acknowledge that Mr. H. T. Nelson was employed by Taiga Consultants Ltd. for a period of 2^ years commencing in February 1980.

During this time, his duties entailed prospecting; soil, water, lake sediment, and stream silt geochemical surveying (for both uranium and precious metals exploration programs); geophysical surveying (ground magnetics and VLF-EM); and supervision of linecutting and staking programs.

He has been required to undertake data presentation (e.g., diurnal correction and plotting of magnetic results, profiled plotting of EM-16 and Crone Radem VLF data, sample locations and grid layouts transferred to airphotos and topographic base maps), and cost and personnel summaries while supervising crews.

He has worked in the Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia; and in the Northwest Territories.

During this period of time, we found Mr. Nelson to be hard working, diligent, conscientious, innovative in his approach to any type of problem encountered while working in remote northern locations, and possessive of a good-natured personality.

We would unhesitatingly recommend him for employment in the field of mineral exploration.

Yours very truly, TAIGA CONSULTANTS LTD.
