GETTING STARTEDINTRO
1VIBRANCE EV 5000 SERIESUV-LED BLACKLIGHT
REV 3 (DEC 2013)
GETTING STARTEDCongratulations on your purchase of the Vibrance EV 5000 UV-LED Black Light. Magnaflux provides the NDT industry with top-performing, innovative accessories. The VIBRANCE® EV5000 UV-LED Black Light generates ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength that is outside the spectrum visible to the human eye and shorter than the wavelength of blue-violet lights that is visible to humans.
The light’s ultraviolet radiation is generated by special high performance UV LEDs. The LEDs generate a UV light with a wavelength between 360 to 370 nm and peak radiation at approximately 365 nm. This corresponds to UV radiation in the so-called UVA range. Since the UV-LED does not generate any dangerous UVB or UVC radiation, simpler and more cost-efficient filter glasses can be used.

PRECAUTIONSIf precautions are not taken, ultraviolet light can injure eyes and skin. To assure operator safety, please read and follow these guidelines:
• Connect the EV5000 only to grounded electrical outlets.
• Avoid direct skin contact with the lens when the light is on; the hot lens can cause severe burns.
• Wear opaque gloves and protective clothing during inspections to protect skin from possible UV irritation.
• Never use a black light without a glass filter.
• Never look directly into the lamp while it is on.
• Avoid splashing liquid on hot lens; the tempered glass may crack, allowing unfiltered UV light to escape.
• The EV5000 uses mercury vapor gas bulbs, which must be handled with care. If a bulb cracks, it should be replaced immediately. If a bulb breaks, sweep up the pieces without touching the glass as the mercury can be harmful. Dispose of the glass and mercury using industry standard safety handling procedures.

OPERATIONINSTRUCTIONS
OPERATION
1. Connect the light to the power supply by way of the supply cable.
2. Plug in the cord from the power supply to 115V/60 Hz/1 Phase receptacle.
3. Press the power button on the rear of the hand-held lamp for a short time to turn on the UV LEDs.
4. If configured, the white LED can be used for orientation purposes. To turn the white LED on, press and hold the power button until the UV LEDs activate, then operation switches over to the white LED.
5. No warm-up required.
6. To turn off, press the power button on the rear of the hand-held lamp for a short time.
Operating the light only when required will increase the lifespan of the UV LEDs. Free use of the light requires ventilation (natural convection).
RADIATION INTENSITY AND RADIATION AREAStarting from a distance of approx. 15”, the radiation intensity decreases as the light gets further away from the component. In the practice of non-destructive material testing, the distance from the UV light to the work piece should not exceed 15”.
Even illumination of the test surface is important to ensure detection of cracks.
