Introduction Magnetic + Levitation = Maglev Vehicle travels along a guide way using magnets to create
both lift and propulsion. Shanghai Maglev Train,(Transrapid), fastest commercial
train
• 430 km/h (270 mph).
• Covers a distance of 30.5 km (19.0 mi) in 8 minutes.
Smoother and quieter than wheeled trains. Expensive to construct, offsetting lower maintenance cost.
MAGLEV IN THE WORLD

MAGLEV=MAGNETIC+LEVITATIONThree principals of working:-1.PROPULSION 2.LEVITATION 3.LATERAL GUIDANCE
Three components to this system: A large electrical power source Metal coils lining a guideway or
track Large guidance magnets attached
to the underside of the train
Working
Infrastructure SPM maglev system; inter-operable with steel rail tracks right-of-way clearing extensive pile driving on-site guide way manufacturing in-situ pier construction at 25m intervals a maintenance facility and vehicle yard several switches two stations operations and control systems power feed system cables and inverters operational training
Management
Design
VEHICLEminimum of two sections, 90 seats on average (may be composed of up to ten sections)
SYSTEMElectronically controlled support magnets located on both sides.
MAGLEV TRACK
The magnetized coil running along the guideway, repels the large magnets on the train's undercarriage, allowing the train to levitate between 0.39 and 3.93 inches (1 to 10 cm) above the guideway.
•Double track guideway.
Major Design Refinements •Quadruple Magnet •Planar Guideway•Narrow Beam Guideway
Operation Runs on electricity. Pollution free. Runs in open
atmosphere. At 300 mph ,Maglev
consumes only 0.4 mega joule energy/passenger .
At 150 mephitic consumes only 0.1 mega joule, which is only 2% of energy consumed by typical auto or conventional train at a speed of 60 mph.
SHANGHAI MAGLEV TRAIN Started in 2004. Operated by Shanghai
Maglev Transportation Development Cooperative Limited.
Demonstration line cost US$ 1.2 billion to build.
Speed 430km/h. Total distance covered 30.5
kms in 8 minutes. No of line 1, no. of stations 2.
