WELCOME All members of the College are warmly invited to use the Chapel as a place for quiet reflection, prayer and worship. Services are conducted according to the rites of the Church of England, but people of all faiths - and of none - are welcome to attend. CHRISTMAS SERVICES

Admission to the Advent Carol Service and the three Carols by Candlelight services is by ticket only. The Advent service is free and open to all. Tickets may be collected from the Porters’ Lodge from Monday 4th November. The charge for tickets for Carols by Candlelight goes to support the Chapel’s chosen Christmas charities for the year. Seats for the services on 14th and 15th December will be released to students and staff in October, and to the public from Monday 4th November via www.ticketsoxford.com, telephone 01865 305305. Tickets for the service on 8th December are available to Friends of the Choir (who have priority booking) and alumni only, via the Development Office on [email protected]

THE ADDISON SOCIETY Monday Lunchtimes, Weekly; 1-2pm, Cloisters 4:2 Joseph Addison (1672-1719) was an English essayist, poet, playwright, politician and Fellow of Magdalen. The Addison Society meets weekly in the Dean of Divinity’s rooms for a free lunch to talk about the arts, culture, current affairs and faith. All are welcome to this open, non-judgmental and frank discussion group. If you are interested in joining this group then please speak to, or email, the Dean or just come along. COFFEE & DOUGHNUTS Thursday of Weeks 1, 3, 5 and 7; 4-5pm, Cloisters 4:2 The perfect study break! Coffee, tea, doughnuts and other snacks will be available for students in the Dean of Divinity’s room in Cloisters on alternate Thursday afternoons. CHAPEL VOLUNTEERS’ DINNER Monday 21 October, 7pm A get-together for Chapel volunteers and those interested in getting involved in the Chapel. Contact the Dean for further details and to sign up. WALK TO IFFLEY PUB & MEDIEVAL CHURCH TOUR Saturday 26 October, 12.30pm, departing from the Porter’s Lodge Join us as we make our way to Iffley for a tour of the church and surrounds by medieval historian, Dr Hilary Pearson, followed by a drink at the Isis Farmhouse pub. LEWIS AT MAGDALEN’: A TALK BY DR MICHAEL WARD Thursday 7 November, 4.30pm, Cloisters 4:2 Senior Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall and Professor of Apologetics at Houston Baptist University, Michael Ward is the co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis. EASTER STUDY RETREAT 2020 Hilfield Friary, Dorset: Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th April 2020 An opportunity for rest, study and countryside rambles. Open to all College members. Refugee Action are looking for post-graduate students to provide academic mentoring to refugees being resettled in Oxfordshire. Contact the Dean for more information.
