Kerrang is a popular music magazine that sells roughly 52,000 copies a week. I believe this is a very good front cover firstly because of the style of writing, it looks like its been smashed this is representing the loudness of Matt Bellamy’s guitar. The photography is great, all photos are action shots, they are all doing what they do best, performing also they all look serious none have them thumbs up or anything like that. I like the layout, the main photo covers a bit of the title but they can afford to do that because they are so well known and I also like the headline in the arrow pointing you to open the magazine.

The idea represented by kerrang here is, to be a performer you have to be cool. It’s audiences would be roughly rockers, with a bit of controllable attitude from about the ages 17-25.

NME music magazine like Kerrang is very popular, it was first published in 1952 and had its most popular days in the 70’s. The layout of this magazine is simple along with the title its easy to get, not a lot to confuse you but still catches your eye. The front cover is one laid out like a poster to inform about the big fight between these two greats to the top of the chart, It mimics a boxing poster to portray the importance of this fight to the top. The pictures of both lead singing of the bands and different, on one hand we have a kind of eye brow raise cheeky look from Blur’s front man but on the other hand a hidden, serious, behind the glasses look front Oasis’ front man.

I believe the audience for this certain copy of the magazine is anyone who’s into popular music, these two bands where England biggest at the time and a lot of people likes them both. More recently I’d say the magazine would appeal to more young adults then other ages.

Smash hits magazine, not the best magazine but that’s probably because it doesn’t appeal to me what so ever. As you can see the magazine has a lot of different colours, it’s in your face and the font of the quote is childish. The main picture is again childish it’s Britney Spears covering her ears from the racket the other ones are making. Unlike the other magazines this one offers song words cards and posters in it, I wont think older people will be too interested in this. Also the quotes “YEAH!” and “OOH!” is reminding the people looking at this that if you don’t understand why those quotes are there you probably shouldn’t buy it.

All the bands featured in this magazine are girly and appeals more to the younger audience, so I believe the target audience will but girls from 10-15 and perhaps a couple of boys here and there.

As you can see already this magazine Rolling stone is a complete contrast to that of smash hit even though we still have the same girl on the front cover, but this time just a little more mature. As you can see this magazine offers more then just music, the picture is very sexy and as you can see from the different headlines its more of a gossip magazine for music. The title of the magazine is in stylish font with a bold but inviting colour, with most of the headlines following this trend. There is a lot of name dropping on this front cover with 10 big names on it which could instantly attract people towards it.

The target audience for this magazine will be “the middle of the road rock fans” with the ages being 15+.

Classic fm, this magazine is rather different to the rest. From the lay out you can see its not in your face like the others, we have the simple white back round, the easy to read quote and the simple font for the title. The use of black and white as the main colours portrays the magazine to have a get straight to the point kind of attitude. The picture is one with good expression, it looks like he has something important to say which might attract the audience to the quote then into the magazine.

All the people on here are from a different generation to mine, I have no interest what so ever therefore the target audience will be the older person, perhaps 40+.
