Magazine cover I had a look at magazine covers to take note of how it is

presented and the layout of the text and image. It was to see how the work the around the image in the background because you don’t really want the image to go over the top of the person who may be in the background. You also don’t want any unnecessary blank spaces as this can make the magazine look as though it is empty and not really full of that much. It was also important to see what colour was used for the text and whether certain texts were different colours and whether the colours matched the colours in the image. One magazine cover I did like was the one for the film ‘salt’. This is because it was dramatic and the actor on the cover still kept in character.

This magazine cover has a close up of the main actor in the film. Because it’s a very recognisable face, you know immediately what film is being featured in the magazine.

There isn’t much text on the film because the photo of the actors head takes up most of the page. This is alright though because even though there is little text, the magazine makes it clear what the main attraction/film is in that issue. It also means that there are no blank spaces making the cover look bare.

The name of the magazine and the film are big so that they too catch your eye, it makes it easier to see what the film is and which magazine it is that you are looking for.

The layout id pretty simple with the name of magazine at the top and the name of the featured film at the bottom. The photo is in the middle with the text on either side. At the top it also mentions other films too so that it will appeal to those who may not like the featured film.

The background in this cover is very bright and therefore will catch your eye. The colour also goes with the style of the character and the film too which means that you will know what film is being featured in the magazine.

The downside to the magazine is that, the name of the film that is featured is in quite small font. I guess its therefore hoping that just having the picture, will mean you will immediately know what the film is.

‘Ultimate summer preview’ is in large hoping that it will catch your attention with the other films that are being featured. The text in white works because it stands out from the very colourful background, and is better than black because the colour black would have dragged the brightness of the magazine down.

I chose to analyse this magazine cover because I particularly liked the way the name of the magazine, ‘film’, blended in with the style of the background.

The photo of Leornado Dicaprio isn’t really a close up like the photos in the two above magazines. Because the image is smaller, more text can be fitted in around him and it allows the name of the film to be bigger and attract the eye of the audience without them having to pick up the magazine to find out which film is being featured.

The three main colours on the cover are blue, silver and red. The ‘Inception’  is in silver and actually looks as though its made of metal or looks a little 3D rather than looking flat due to the shadows on it.  The lighting on the actor and in the background, works really well because it goes with the style of the film and gives a gloomy or tense atmosphere.

What I find different with this cover is the fact that the guns actually feel as though they are coming out at you. You can feel the energy of the film just by looking at the cover because the actor is actually doing or holding something rather than it just being a close up on the actor or the actor standing straight. I love how the gun covers the ‘M’ in the word ‘film’. This helps with making it seem as though the guns are 3D and also makes the cover that little bit more interesting and different. They’ve also messed around with the text rather than leaving it bland and just like other magazines. Having the name of the film look as though its been shattered goes with the energy of the film.

Magazine cover• Most magazine covers only have the main actor in the film featured

on the front. Mine however, has two main characters so I had to try and fit them around the text. It was harder with two people on the front because there was less room for text and any other images that needed to go on.

• With the magazine cover, I started off by sorting out the image and editing it how I wanted. I made sure that there was a space above the two actors as well as on either side of them and below them too for the text to go. The text went in after and the main thing I had to consider was what was going to be put on it and where each text was going to go. This went for the name of the film as this had to be bigger than the other texts so that you can clearly see which film is featured in the magazine.

It challenges other forms because most magazine covers do have smaller images of other films that are going to be featured in the magazine. I, however, didn’t include that on mine because I thought that it would draw away the attention from the main feature film. Again, the colours aren’t necessarily bright but there is a big/bright light between the two actors to grab your attention. This light is meant to represent the flash off a camera.
