MASTHEAD

The Masthead is the title of the magazine and is usually used on the contents page inside as well as the front cover, and as a logo for advertising and branding purposes.

The EMPIRE magazine is in bold capital letters and this is to catch the audience’s eye and makes them aware what the magazine is called.

This is the visual branding of the title and is often done in a specially designed font to be easily recognised and unique.

MAIN IMAGE

The main image of the magazine is Captain Jack Sparrow as the magazine is promoting the new film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

He is placed in the centre of the magazine so that it is the first thing you see and it allows the reader to instantly know that there is a new film and EMPIRE are going to have a feature about it.

Captain Jack has an ocean behind him with waves, this may also add to enhance the film and what it is about; Pirates are associated with the ocean.

LAYOUT

The layout of the magazine is

based around the main image and

this is used to increase the

importance of the main image and

make it bolder.

The colours also are important and

there is lots of blue from the

background of the sea and waves,

this links with the theme of pirates.
