Magazine Analysis

Page 2: Magazine analysis

Main image wearing the colour white which stands out against the dark background image/ colour.

The masthead is in a bright yellow text which emphasizes against the dark background colours received from the main image which is placed central of the page. The font stands out for the unique choice of colour that could represent the magazine

as a whole.

There is no main headline that is easy to identify on this front cover. Due to every piece of text included on the cover (apart from the masthead) all being the same font size, keeping everything the at the same status of importance.

The main image stands out because it is in the centre of the page and is enlarged to portray the whole background of the front cover page. This indicated a huge importance with this image and what it represents.

Part of the model/person captured for the main image has their arm over lapping/ hiding the letter ‘R’ from the masthead title; “School Sport”. This could show that the company believe that they are well known enough to now be able to cover up parts of the masthead due to them expecting a huge variety of the target audience being aware of what the magazine is. This could also indicate that the company are successful.

All the other headlines and sections of text don’t include any type of imagery which portrays a formal side to this magazine which indicates that the selected target audience for this magazine would be middle or higher class adults (parents or guardians of a pupil who attends the school) and young adults (students who attend the school).

The headlines are placed around the edges creating a border/frame for the main image which helps it to stand out and be the main focus of the page.

Also the headlines are sectioned off as they go down the page using consisted colours that have been used for other features on the magazine: masthead, clothing used in the main image etc.

Overall this magazine cover is a busy page with many stories available for the target audience to read. However this magazine is mainly directed more towards people who enjoy reading plenty of text.

The masthead is written in simple italic font which represents a very sophisticated look towards the whole of this magazine. The chosen colour of the masthead font works well as it it stands out against the plan, dark blue background colour.

The masthead size is quite an average size, however this makes the masthead difficult to read from a distance for passers by or the target audience.

The main image is very effective with it shaped as a shield which represents success which reflects upon this schools representation.

The main image stands out with the white lining surrounding the image which emphasizes it more to help passers by to notice it due to it being very eye catching.

There is no headline available on this magazine front cover. This could encourage a member of the target audience to purchase the magazine to find out what it includes inside. However it could be the opposite and putt off the target audience with it looking too basic and boring, so they see no point to purchase the item.

This front cover only includes text sharing information on the schools name and status that once again keeps the magazine appearing basic.

Overall this magazine cover is very basic and formal which obviously represents what the magazine contents is like.

This magazine cover indicates the target audience as middle and upper class adults who could be parent or guardian of a pupil who attends the school.

The background image has a faded effect which works well to avoid it being the main focus of the contents page.

The Titles (underlined words) have a white outline which distorts the eyes which can cause frustration towards the audience when trying to read what the contents page has to offer.

The Fonts are brightly coloured which consists with the line based underneath the title which helps them to stand out from a distance in order to catch the audience’s (walkers by) attention.

The titles are based on school topics and very formal subjects which shows the target audience aimed for this magazine contents are young adults and parents.

Page 5: Magazine analysis

The main image on this contents page stands out more than the list of contents which is not what the aim of a contents page is. The main focus is meant to be the text therefore this image is not suitable.

The list of the contents is very formal and has a great choice of colour for the font which is emphasized against the dark, plain black background colour.

The amount of colours used makes it difficult to work out who the possible target audience could be. With the black, white and red colour scheme I would assume the target audience would be males aged between 16-2. However with the image portraying a group of girls, this could insinuate that the aim for the target audience are teenage girls.

The layout of the contents page is very formal and sophisticated which indicates that the target audience could be a higher sophisticated class of adults.
