Conventions of a magazine advertisement: Album name – allows audience to know what the album is called and may indicate what kind of album it may be. Here, the artist uses play on language ‘Wretchrospective’, blending his artist name ‘Wretch’ and the word ‘retrospective’. This could suggest that he is good at cleverly crafting words, and this may appeal to the audience as he is a lyricist, and this portrays the idea that his lyrics may be clever, therefore, worth listening to. The use of ‘retrospective’ suggests that the album is personal and has been written from the artist’s view, looking back on his life. We can see that the album title has been written in all capitals and is the largest text on the Album release date – the album release date is conventional as it allows the audience to know when the album is available. Again, it has been placed on a black banner in bold white text and is one of the larger pieces of text due to it being vital to sales of the album. Artist name – This is conventional as it allows the audience to know who is releasing an album. The font is different to the rest use on the poster, and this perhaps may be to draw attention to it. The font appears to represent the look of graffiti, which is something commonly associated with the grime genre and street culture. This perhaps may have been used to portray what kind of artist ‘Wretch 32’ is and also to target followers of grime as they’d most likely be able to identify from the font that this is a grime artist. Where to purchase – the advertisement informs the audience on what forms of the album are available e.g physical copy, mp3 ,and where you can purchase it from. Picture of the album – a picture of the album is featured, this allows the audience to become aware of what the album looks like, meaning that will know what The use of blue on the advertisement could suggest that the target audience for this album is male as blue is stereotypically associated with men. This could perhaps be due to the fact that grime/rap music is a male dominated genre. Image of the artist – we can see that the image of the artist used in the same of that on the album cover. A medium flat angle shot has been used, meaning the artists’ face and clothing can be see. He is holding a chain, reinforcing the genre of grime as this piece of jewellery od commonly associated with grime/rap music.
