The font used for presenting the new album is very similar to the one used on the actual album. The font is written in bold, which makes the words stand out. Although the colour used for the writing is white while the background is grey, the colours do not blend in together and separates the picture from the writing, the overall result being to make both of those elements stand out. The advert also includes writing that “sells” the album, particularly the ones presenting the top hits and the additional tracks. This is very important, mainly because it presents what the product can give to the audience. Having 2 top songs in the album and additional tracks gives the product value, mainly because it presents popular songs and more quantity than albums usually have. Additionally, the magazine advert also includes a review by the “Rolling Stone” magazine, which also increases the quality of the product. This is because the “Rolling Stone” is a very famous music magazine that music fans can trust. Although the font used is very simple, the letter “t” used in the word “monster” resembles a cross, which brings up religious connotation. Although this is the same symbol used on the album, it is very important to have it written in the advert because it not only represents the house style of the real album, but it also gives the customer an idea of what the theme used for the product.

In this particular magazine advert, there are 3 types of photographs used in order to describe the product. The first one is exactly the same image used for the real product, which depicts Lady Gaga looking directly at the camera. She looks emotionless and “doll” like, which is the main theme of the product. The image ultimately describes how being famous can be a downside, which is losing the privilege to act and talk the way you want to.

The second picture is also Lady Gaga, however, with her eyes close. The fact that she does not look at the camera brings up her desire of being herself. Unlike the first picture, this one presents the artist more “human” like, as her hair is slightly messy and her facial expression is more recognizable. The fact that the picture is slightly faded also connects the picture to the theme of the album, which is what famous people have to give up on when they become famous.

The last picture is completely faded, which makes it really hard to see what it describes. This gives a mysterious feel to the album, as it makes people question what else did she have to give up to become famous. Intriguing people might also make them more curious about the album and potentially purchase it.

Additionally, the advert also includes a mini picture of the album, which shows both the front and the back of it. I find this element important, mainly because it makes people trust the product and also it guides them on what to look for if they choose to buy it.

By reviewing this magazine advert, I have learnt more about the conventions of an advert, particularly about the importance of pictures and what kind of impact it has on the audience. For instance, it made me think about the mood they convey and how they link to the theme of the album. Having the pictures connected to the album is particularly useful, mainly because it gives the audience an idea of what kind of music it contains.

Having other magazines review the album is also useful as it assures the audience about the quality of the product. It also convinces people to buy it, which is a very good method in promoting something.
