Here we used the polygonal lasso tool to contour lines around the main object. We did this to cut out all of the background so that we was only left with the amp and the microphone. In order for us to stick to the conventions of rock bands, we needed a black background. Using the eraser tool, we were able to take out all of the image that we didn’t need and after this we used the fill tool to turn it black. However, as can be seen in the image to the right, we left a white line around the object and as we hadn't used Photoshop much before, we initially struggled to remove this line.

We managed to remove the white line by drawing dark lines using the polygonal lasso tool to cover them up. This gave us a neater and more professional finish.

We continued to use the eraser to ensure we only kept the parts of the image that were important. When we used the eraser it left a square pattern which acted as a clear indicator to us that nothing had been kept on that layer. This meant we were then able to arrange layers into the order we needed knowing that we wasn’t going to overlap anything that we needed.

For the parts that were a little more detailed we used the paint tool to ensure that we didn’t miss any areas. The paint tool allowed us to change the length and width of the brush, this was really useful when it came to filling in the corners.

We repeated this process to ensure our poster looked as neat and professional as possible. Here this shows were we kept merging layers to ensure that all the lines and fills stuck together.

This is the final result once we had merged all of the layers. We felt it looked a lot more conventional of a rock music advert now that we had filled the background it. It also made the main image stand out more, which is good for catching the eyes of the audience.

We turned the image black and white to give a better effect. We did this by going to properties on the right hand side, we then selected the circle that represented black and white. We then experimented with the colour exposures. We felt that by turning this image black and white we was providing a clear link between this and the performance aspect of our music video. This is because we chose to turn all of the as live shots in the video to black and white.

However, when we were changing the colours it made the lettering on the amp blurry. Therefore we selected the smart sharpen tool, found in the filter drop down menu. After we did this, the shade of black around the lettering appeared a little different, therefore we went ahead and used the blur tool to fix this.

We went onto an external site to source the font. We used ‘Dafont.com’. The font we selected was called ‘Fast In My Car’. College computers wouldn’t allow us to download this font and therefore we had to use the snipping tool to copy and paste this into Word.

Once the font was copied into word we used the colour selection tool to set the background transparent.

We turned the image white and then went on to select a saturated effect. We then placed this on a black background to create the effect of the conventions we wished to develop. These being authority and power. We felt that the white, which is a colour that connotes purity, stood out on the bold black background and showed authority on the page.

We then used the snipping tool, cropped the photo, and then placed in on our Photoshop document.
