At Lowender Peran this year, there was an event for the first time called Kensa Keskan.  There were choirs singing Cornish songs and songs in Cornish.

It was a wonderful evening with many voices all singing together and you can watch five of the songs from the event on Pellwolok an Gernewegva.  It's perfect for singing along at home...  And Matthi is putting more programmes on Pellwolok an Gernewegva now - with reports from the most important events in Cornwall in Cornish.  The programmes are interesting for Cornish news and they are a useful resource for students as well.  Do watch them and enjoy Kensa Keskan.

Festival Kernewek – Penzance Cornish Language Festival will be held in the Acorn Theatre and is being organised by the educational charity Cornish Quest.

The programme is varied and full of activities relating to the Cornish language.

A highlight of the festival will be the conference on Saturday 25th February. The keynote speaker will be the Council of Europe’s Dr Tove Malloy. Dr Malloy chaired the Advisory Committee group of experts when they visited Truro in March earlier this year. The theme of the conference will be ‘The Cornish Language, the FCNM and the European Charter’.

Guided bi-lingual walks, a treasure hunt, workshops and courses will be held throughout the week as well as talks, music and evening entertainments.

The festival will culminate on St Piran’s Day, 5th March, with a recreation of a medieval St Piran procession, accompanied by Keur Heb Hanow carried on a horse drawn dray, from the ancient core of the town to the original mother church at Madron where there will be a St Piran service at 11am.

The festival is funded by a successful application to the National Lottery ‘Celebrate’ fund.

Between the 14th and 23rd of July 2016, twelve young Breton speakers aged from 13 to 16 years old, visited Cornwall and stayed with a group of twelve Cornish young people at Tehidy Park.

During this summer camp, they took part in many activities and visits, and shared their common heritage and roots. They spoke Brezhoneg, Kernewek, English, and also a bit of French. The Bretons are very motivated to welcome the Cornish for the return trip in Finistere in 2017.

This visit was being held as part of the KELT project, the aim of which was to organise a youth exchange to promote the Breton and Cornish languages. The project was funded under the ERASMUS+ programme and led by UBAPAR and Kowethas and Yeth Kernewek. It was developed in the frame of the Finistere-Cornwall cooperation, a cooperation partnership between Finistere and Cornwall councils which has run since 1989 and strengthened in 2007. Facilitating and supporting projects in the field of regional languages are one of its priorities for 2016-2017.
