GEO-MAGNETIC SURVEY

C. P. EXPLORATIONS LIMITED

DAVIS TOWNSHIP

SUDBURY MINING DIVISION

INTRODUCTION

The property surveyed for C. P. Explorations Ltd. consisted

of eight claims numbered S-91161 to S-91168 inclusive. The registered

holder of said claims is A. Hopkins, Suite 607, 320 Bay St. Toronto, Ontario.

The west boundry of the group is nineteen hundred feet east of the old shaft of Aetna Gold Mines Ltd. This mine was located

on the Gabbro-Greywacke contact.

LOCATION AND ACCESS

The eight claims surveyed are located in Davis Township,

Sudbury Mining Division. Four claims, S-91161, S-91164, S-91165 and

S-91168 are located in the east half of Lot 9, Concession III. The

remaining four, S-91162, S-91163, S-91166 and S-91167 are located

in the west half of Lot 8, Concession III. The property is bounded

on the West by patented land, upon which exploratory work and drilling

is at present being done. The south boundary of the property is

approximately one and one third mile north of the Canadian National

Railroad, and the Kabikotitwa River. The East boundary is approximately

one and one quarter miles west of Waskigama Lake.

Aircraft may land on Waskigama Lake which is a little over

a mile east of the property.

The present survey crew proceeded to the property via

Capreol to Crerar station. The drill company on the adjoining property

kept a tractor road open to their camp, approximately three miles

north-east of Crerar station, this winter. The crew used this road

to gain acces to the property. It is understood that at certain seaason of the year a

four-wheel drive vehicle may proceed to the property from Markstay.

The property is approximately eleven miles north of Markstay, Ontario.

GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY

A baseline was started at the old shaft of Aetna Gold

Mines Ltd., and run in a true east direction to the east boundary

of the property. This baseline intersects the west boundary of the

group at nineteen hundred east, three hundred and twenty feet south

of post 4, claim S-91164.Picket lines, at right angles to this baseline, were

Page 3: MAG SUR C P EXPL LTD - Ontario€¦ · 7lok^t linea, at ri.yirit ansloB to hhia bn.aolj.ntt, wore turned oft* nt four Iionired foot intervale, and o* bonded tn tlio ITorth .".ad Ocuth

turned off at four hundred foot intervals, and extended to the north

and south boundaries. These picket lines were chained, and marked pickets placed at one hundred foot stations. ^

A Wolfson magnetometer, with a sensitivity of 23.4 gammas per scale division, was used to determine the variations in the vertical component of the earth's magnetic field. The readings obtained were corrected for temperature and diurnal changes and plotted on a map with a scale of two hundred feet per inch.

Two continuous anomalies cross the group. They are both believed to be intrusions of Gabbro in the Greywacke. In some areas outcropping is visible, but the greater portion of the property is swamp or overburden.

There is a magnetic low located in the Gabbo on lines

nineteen and twenty three hundred south which could be signfleant.

CONCLUSION

A detailed electro-magnetic survey should be run over

both large magnetic anomalies, possibly spacing lines two hundred

feet apart. Any electromagnetic anomalies should be drilled.

Itis quite possible to have mineralization of commercial

significance, in the Gabbro-Greywacke contact which wuld not be

detected by an electromagnetic survey. To thoroughly investigate

the possibilities of this property, therefore, it would be necessary

to drill a series of short holes along these contacts.

Respectfully submitted,

S. L. Spafford

ARSA, ONTARIO

Introduction*

DIM to reoent mining activity in Davis Township by such companies ea Harriaon Minerals Linited, Alba Explorations Limited/ for copper, goId,nickel, cobalt and silver, many mining claims have been staked and recorded, and explor ation of same is now taking place.

Lee Cordon Mines gimited acquired the western 8 of this block of 22 claims by option and the eastern 14 claims by purchase. The first sizeable option payment is due to be made by Lee Gordon Mines Limited for this property on 15th July 1937.

Propertyt

This consists of 22 contiguous unpatented mining claima numbered as f o Hows i

5.91161-8.91168 inclusive S.99319-S.99332 inclusive

The claims are in good standing until at leaat let December 1957i and comprise an area of approximately 88O acrea.

Location;

This property lies in the centre of Davis Township, 1^ miles due north of Ea a Creek Station on the C.N.K.,^ mile southwest of Waakimaga Lake, 24 milea due eaat of Aahigaml Lake, 7 miles south east of Wahnapitei Lake, and 15 nllea northeast of Falconbridge Nickel Mlnea, Sudbury Mining Division, Ontario.

Accessibility:

The property may be reached by four-wheel drive vehicle from Markatay, a drive of about 15 milea northerly. Markstay is on Highway 17 eaat of Sudbury. The truck road passes through Crerar Station which la on the C.N.R. tranacontinental line between North Bay and Capreol. From Crerar the road branches northeast off the Ashigama Lodge road and 3i miles northeast to the property. Another (tractor) road extends northerly from Ess Creek station through the property, s distance of about two milea. . ,. "

The relief in the area aver age a 100 to 200 feet. Quartzite, gneiss, galibro, and conglomerate account for moat of the eleyationa and are scattered fairly evenly throughout the area. There la little regional uniformity in the strike of the ridges; looaliftp as east and west of Crerar, the parallelis* is narked. Sou threat of Ashigami Lake, a sand and gravel plain obscures practically all of the bed rook. In places, swanp*' and sniskegs cover extensive areas j elsewhere exposures are abundant.

On the west the streams flow into Vanapitei River and Lake; on the east fehe drainage is toward the Sturgeon River.

Local Geo logy i

Your property is mainly underlain by Cobalt (Gowganda ) conglom erate, greywacke, quartzite and limestone. This is intruded by a large Nipissing diabase dyke or sill which is essentially quartz gabbro. This intrusive strikes about northwest-southeast through the southwest quarter of your property, where it is about a thousand feet wide.

Economic Geology t

Davis Township contains known deposits of copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, silver, mica and felspar. An old rock trench was noted on your claim No. S. 99324 at approximately 90 plus 50'N. and 8250 'E. which despite the deep snow showed a siliceous zone 20 feet wide wl copper stain and mineralization (chalcopyrite). A quarter of a mile N.E. of your claim 3.99324 (on Sunbeam* s claim No. 8.89469) is a 125* deep shaft on a siliceous copper zone 12* wide. The water of Capri Lake and Creek is quite sulphurous. Dips believed to be steeply to the south.

Harrison Minerals Limited, who control the property Immediately west or your property, are testing two mineralized zones. The shaft area (^ mile west of your property) is reported to already have indicated 275,000 tons averaging 1.5S& copper, 0.4l oz. gold per ton, plus cobalt and silver values. The adit zone is estim ated to contain 7,500 tons per vertical foot of low-grade copper- niokel-gold-silver material. It is proposed to mine this by open-pit methods and to deepen the shaft to 250 feet. Alba Explorations Limited, has indicated a nickel-copper zone at the south side of the narrows between Wasklgama and Murray Lakes l i mi le a east of your property.

Other mining companies in the Towns hi D include Stratmat, Asher, Gold Mines Limited, Tecumseh Gold Mines, Mac-Auer Gold Mines, Alkln Gold Mines, Ess Creek Mining Syndicate, Sunbeam and Plex- Terre Mining Companies.

In Janes Twp. east of the Alba Explorations property are reported "rich" showings of nickel and copper ?.i the properties of Snow Lake Mines, E. Rivers, Sulmac Explorations, and Assembly Mines.

Pieket lines, at right angles to this baseline, were turned bf f: at four hundred foot Intervals, and extended to the north and south boundaries* These picket lines were chained, and . marked pickets placed at one. hundred foot stations. The re connaissance magnetic survey was only performed on your 8 western claims (S,91161-8 inol.) in February 1957.

A Wolfison magnetometer, with a sensitivity of 23.4 gammas per scale division, was used to determine the variations in the vertical component of the Earth's Magnetic field. The readings taken by S.L. Spafford wefre'corrected for temperature and diurnal changes and plotted on a map with a scale of two hundred feet per inch. The background readings are about 1500 gammas.

Two continuous magnetic anomalies a-a and d-d. cross the group. They are both believed to be caused by intrusions of Gabbro and/or norite intruded into the greywacke. In some areas out cropping is visible, but the greater portion Of the property is swamp or overburden. There are also two shorter magnetic anomalies, b-b and c-c,

Electromagnetic Survey;

This reconnaissance survey wa. performed by J.P. Sheridan and assistants over your same 3 western claims and your 4 eastern claims (S.99323-4 and 3.99331-2) in February 1957.

The standard ^Sharpe" or "McPhar" method was employed using a rotatable vertical transmitting coil. Transmitter stations are plotted on the accompanying plan with receiver stations at 100-ft. picket intervals along the picket linea. The receiver null readings are plotted as degrees North or South by profiles at a scale of l* . lo*. Readings on the west sides of tne lines are north readings and readings on the right hand sides of the lines are south readings.

On the west section of the property 4 NW-SE trending conductors are indicated. Electromagnetic anomaly A-A mere or less parallels the magnetometer anomaly a-a about 200 feet south of It. Electromagnetic anomaly B-B appears to lie off the H.W. nose of magnetometer anomaly b-b. Electromagnetic anomaly C-C parallels magnetometer anomaly c-c about 100' south of it. Electromagnetic anomaly D-D traverses part of a turbulent magnetic anomaly d-d.

On the eastern ^ ^lains 4 more electromagnetic anomalies are indicated. Due to the gap of * a mile between east and west it is difficult to correlate these with certainty, but it isS?8^bl?*-Hh; J l 'A\would li"* "P "ith A-A, B'-B' with B-B, C'-C' with C-C, and D'-D' with D-D. Conclusionst

1. Reconnaissance magnetometer and electromagnetlo surveys were performed on parts of your 22-claim property in Davis Twp. Sudbury area.

2. Pour parallel anomalous zonea striking about 300* are indi cated by both theae aurveya.

3. The magnetic zones are believed to be cauaed by gabbro and/ or norite dykes intrusive into the greywacke sediments.

4. The electromagnetic conductors are believed to be cauaed by one oft-

a graphitic seamsb carbonaceous schistso contact shearsd sulphide zonea at or near gabbro contacts.

If condition (d) exists, then there is a possibility of base and/or precious metal mineralization.

6. Due to very interesting developments in locating nickel, copper, cobalt, gold and silver on other nearby properties more or leas on strike in Davis and Janes Twps. and due to anomalies indicated to date, further exploration of your property la warranted.

Recommendations;

It is recommended by the writer that:
