INTRODUCTION

THE 3 CLAIM PLUNGE PROPERTY, ONCE PART OF A LARGER PROPERTY ACQUIRED BY CANAMAX (1979) AND GRANGES (1990), HAS HAD MUCH DRILLING DONE ON IT OVER A MILE STRIKE LENGTH.

THE AUTHOR HAS SPENT A CONSIDERABLE TIME GATHERING THE DRILL LOGS UP FROM THE ASSESSMENT FILES AND ORGANIZING THEM.

WHAT CAME TO LIGHT IS THAT THROUGHOUT NUMEROUS GRANGES REPORTS DESCRIBING CANAMAX DRILL HOLES IN DETAIL WITH INTERSECTIONS OBTAINED, AT NO TIME DOES GRANGES ATTRIBUTE MINERALIZATION TO HOLE AM-11. THE AUTHOR ASSUMES GRANGES HAD NO ACCESS TO HOLE AM-11. THIS HOLE WAS DRILLED, DOWN DIP, POSSIBLY, BUT BY THE SAME TOKEN, SHOWS EVIDENCE OF A THIRD MINERALIZED HORIZON ON THE PROPERTY (fig. 1) .

A TDEM SURVEY DONE FOR GRANGES STATES AND DEMONSTRATES THAT THE POTTERDOAL HORIZON PLUNGES TO THE WEST FOR AT LEAST 300 METERS. THIS SURVEY ALSO STATES AND DEMONSTRATES THE STRIKE OF THE ANOMALY TO BE E-W AND CROSS-CUTTING THE GEOLOGY WHICH STRIKES ACROSS THE PROPERTY AT 300 DEGREES. WE DECIDED TO CUT OUR GRID N-S AND TAKE TIME TO LOCATE A SURVEY PIN ON THE MUNRO-WARDEN TOWNSHIP LINE TO MAXIMIZE THE COVERAGE OF THE PROPERTY.

LOCATION AND ACCESS

THE PLUNGE PROPERTY IS LOCATED IN MUNRO TOWNSHIP, LARDER LAKE MINING DIVISION AT APPROXIMATE LATITUDE 48 DEGREES 36 MINUTES N, LONGITUDE 80 DEGREES 12 MINUTES W, NTS 42A/09.

ACCESS TO THE PROPERTY IS EASILY OBTAINED BY ROAD WEST OF MATHESON ON HIGHWAY 101 THEN NORTH ON THE HEDMAN MINE ROAD 6 MILES TO THE POTTERDOAL MINE.

TARGET COMMODITIES

THE MAIN TARGET ON THE POTTERDOAL PLUNGE PROPERTY IS A VOLCANOGENIC MASSIVE SULPHIDE (VMS) BASIN CONCEPT CONTAINING Cu, Zn, Co, Ag, Au.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

THE PROPERTY LIES WITHIN THE EASTERN PART OF THE KIDD- MUNRO ASSEMBLAGE. THIS ASSEMBLAGE CONSISTS OF A SUCCESSION OF THOLEIITIC VOLCANICS AND ZONED MAFIC INTRUSIONS, FELSIC VOLCANICS, AND, KOMATIITIC FLOWS. WITHIN THIS ASSEMBLAGE, VMS MINERALIZATION IS ASSOCIATED WITH EITHER THE MAFIC/ FELSIC CONTACT OR THE MAFIC/ULTRAMAFIC CONTACT. THE ASSEMBLAGE IS BOUNDED TO THE NORTH BY THE NORTH BRANCH OF THE DESTOR-PORCUPINE FAULT AND TO THE SOUTH BY THE PIPESTONE FAULT.

PROPERTY GEOLOGY

THE PROPERTY IS LOCATED ALONG THE CONTACT OF THOLEIITIC AND KOMATIITIC EXTRUSIVE VOLCANIC ROCKS FAVORABLE TO VMS MINERALIZATION. MINERALIZATION IS FOUND ALONG THIS CONTACT ASSOCIATED WIH CHERT, FELSIC TUFF AND HYALOCLASTITE. FELSIC VOLCANIC HORIZONS ALSO LOCATED WITHIN THE THOLEIITIC ROCKS TO THE NORTH OF THE PROPERTY ARE CONSIDERED FAVORABLE FOR HOSTING VMS MINERALIZATION. THE ROCK SEQUENCE IS E-SE TRENDING, SOUTH FACING AND SOUTH DIPPING (60 DEGREES TO 85 DEGREES). THE SEQUENCE FROM SOUTH TO NORTH IS ULTRAMAFIC KOMATIITE, THOLEIITIC BASALT, WITH NARROW FELSIC HORIZONS AND GABBRO. THE PROPERTY ALSO CONTAINS SEVERAL NORTH/SOUTH TRENDING DIABASE DIKES.

PREVIOUS WORK

FEW RECORDS OF EARLY WORK ON THE POTTERDOAL MINE PROPERTY ARE AVAILABLE. TWO SHAFTS WERE SUNK ON THE PROPERTY CIRCA 1930 AND THE MASSIVE SULPHIDE ORE WAS RECOVERED TO APPROXIMATELY 250 FT.

THE ODM MAPPED THE TOWNSHIP IN THE '40'S AND RELEASED A GEOLOGY MAP IN 1951.

DURING THE '50'S, MUCH EXPLORATION WAS DONE IN THE VICINITY OF THE PROPERTY FOR ASBESTOS IN THE ULTRAMAFIC ROCKS PREVALENT IN THE TOWNSHIP.

BETWEEN 1957-1972, CENTRE HILL MINES, PRESENTLY BEING EXPLORED BY MILLSTREAM MINES, WAS DEVELOPED TO THE SOUTH OF THE PLUNGE PROPERTY.

THE OGS RE-MAPPED THE TOWNSHIP BETWEEN 1989-1991.

IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE PLUNGE PROPERTY, CANAMAX PERFORMED HLEM AND DIAMOND DRILLING 1979-1981. SEVERAL OF THE 11 HOLES DRILLED BY CANAMX INTERSECTED Cu-Zn STRINGER MINERALIZATION.

NO FOLLOW UP WORK HAD BEEN DONE ON THE PROPERTY UNTIL IT WAS ACQUIRED BY GRANGES IN 1991. GRANGES DID AN ASSORTMENT OF GEOPHYSICAL AND DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAMS UNTIL 1994 WHEN THE COMPANY SWITCHED ITS INTEREST TO PRECIOUS METALS AND THE COMPANY HAS SINCE LEFT THE PROVINCE AND CHANGED ITS NAME.

LINECUTTING

THE MUNRO-WARDEN TOWNSHIP LINE WAS LOCATED FIRST, AND, AS MUNRO IS A SUBDIVIDED TOWNSHIP AND THE CLAIMS TO THE EAST ARE UNDER LEASE, WE DECIDED TO HAVE A LOT LINE LOCATED AS WELL TO MAKE SURE THE PROPERTY WAS COMPLETELY COVERED BY THE GRID(fig. 4). THE LINES WERE CUT BY MARTIN HARRINGTON OF KIRKLAND LAKE WHO USED A SURVEY INSTRUMENT TO TURN OFF THE LINES. THE LINES WERE CUT 100 METERS APART AND PICKETS WERE SET 25 METERS APART.

MAGNEOMETER PROCEDURE

A BARRINGER GM-122 PROTON MAGNETOMETER WAS USED IN THE SURVEY. THE SURVEY OPERATOR WAS MARTIN HARRINGTON OF KIRKLAND LAKE. DATA PROCESSING AND CONTOURING OF THE RESULTS WAS DONE BY L. MIKE DYMENT.

A TWO LINE LOOP RETURNING TO THE LINE PREVIOUSLY SURVEYED WAS USED FOR DIURNAL PURPOSES.

A BASE STATION WAS SET UP 1/2 MILE SOUTH NEAR THE OPERAOR'S PARKING AREA TO PROVIDE A DOUBLE CHECK OF THE DAILY DIURNAL CHANGE.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

THE MAGNETOMETER SURVEY SUCCESSFULLY DELINEATED SEVERAL ANOMALIES. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT, IN LIGHT OF THE AUTHOR'S PLUNGE AND STRIKE THEORY, IS FOUND ON LINES O AND 1W. THIS E-W ANOMALY CUTS ACROSS THE NW STRIKE OF THE KNOWN GEOLOGY. CANAMAX HOLE AM-ll COULD PROVE TO BE THE DOWNPLUNGE OF ONE OF THE TWO Cu, Zn HORIZONS FOUND NEXT DOOR AT THE POTTERDOAL MINE.NONE OF THE HOLES DRILLED ON THE PLUNGE PROPERTY (PD-8, PD-9, OR AM-11) HAVE TESTED THE MAG ANOMALY (figr. 1) .

FROM RESEARCH AND COMPILING DONE THIS WINTER, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT MOST OF THE DRILL CASINGS WERE LEFT IN. THE NEXT JOB SHOULD BE TO LOCATE AND TIE IN ALL THE DRILL CASINGS TO THE NEW GRID.

SEVERAL OTHER MAG ANOMALIES WERE MAPPED AND APPEAR NOT TO HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY DRILL TESTED. WHEN THE DRILL CASINGS HAVE ALL BEEN TIED IN TO THE NEW GRID, DRILLING SHOULD BE DONE TO TEST THE DOWNPLUNGE THEORY OF THE TWO POTTERDOAL HORIZONS.

SEVERAL AEM ANOMALIES IN THE NORTHERN PART OF CLAIM 1225282 SHOULD BE PROPERLY LOCATED ON THE GROUND AND TIED TO THE NEW GRID.
