MAEviz: Seismic Risk Assessment System
October 31, 2008
Overview
• Scenario – Emergency manager needs to determine short term shelter needs and longer term temporary housing after Magnitude 7.9 Earthquake in Shelby County Tennessee.• Load Housing data and Freeways from Remote or Local
Repositories• Start from Dislocation Analysis and work backwards to create
required inputs• Damage Analysis with hazard uncertainty option• Style View• Result table with result columns highlighted• Start from Dislocation analysis and work forward to Short Term
Shelter Needs• Highlight areas of large dislocation results• Generate Shelter Supply requirements and display in report• Run Temporary housing and report on housing assignments for
displaced families

Overview
• Decision makers of Shelby County need to exercise $1,500,000 budget to retrofit highway bridges for preparing an earthquake (magnitude 7.9). They have six retrofit methods to be implemented and want to minimize the societal cost (which is measured via total system travel time (TSTT)). As a result, they need to know which bridge needs to be retrofitted with which method while minimizing TSTT under budget constraint.
