Si por algo se caracteriza la llegada del verano a la capital es por la instalación de terrazas en las calles de la ciudad. A madrileños y turistas les gusta disfrutar de las buenas temperaturas al aire libre, sobre todo al caer el sol. Poder disfrutar de unas tapas o beber algo con amigos o familiares se convierte durante esta época en algo que todo el mundo quiere hacer. Hay terrazas para todos los gustos, unas más desenfadadas y vanguarditas, otras más tradicionales. Algunas son restaurantes y en otras sólo se sirven cócteles y bebidas. De entre todas, nosotros hemos hecho una particular selección donde encontrar de todo un poco.
Spring means for bullfighting lovers the beginning of the bullfighting season in Madrid. Summer means the arrival of warm weather and that is the sign for bars and restaurants to their tables on the street in their “terrazas” (terrace). Summer is characterized by the terrazas that open all around Madrid. Locals and tourists like to enjoy the nicer outdoor temperatures, especially at sunset. Enjoying tapas or a just having a drink with friends or family during this season becomes something that everybody wants to do. There are terraces for everyone, some more unabashedly and modern, others more traditional. Some are restaurants and while there are those which offer just cocktails or drinks. Among all, we have made our particular selection to find a bit of everything.

5. La más auténtica. Si por algo es conocida la cocina madrileña es por un plato típico sencillo
y que no pasa de moda: el bocata de calamares. Y si hay un sitio conocido por esta

eL GRecO y LA PiNTURA MOdeRNA
La celebración de IV centenario del fallecimiento de El Greco se completa en Madrid con esta exposición, cuya finalidad es mostrar la importancia que tuvo El Greco en la pintura de los siglos XIX y XX. Con una selección de 25 obras, presentadas junto a otras más de 70 pinturas, que demuestran la influencia del artista cretense.
La exposición empieza con la influencia de el Greco sobre los impresionistas del siglo XIX para continuar con figuras como Picasso y el cubismo. También se pondrá en relación a El Greco con el expresionismo centroeuropeo, el surrealismo y otras tendencias.

El Greco played an important role in shaping modern painting. This exhibition, under the activities celebrating the fourth centenary of the death of El Greco, shows the importance that El Greco had for painting in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The exhibit shows 25original works from El Greco, presented alongside with more than 70 paintings, from several artists, showing the influence of the Cretan artist on them.
The exhibition begins with his influence on the Impressionists and continue showing the importance over painters as Picasso and the cubism. The exhibit ends with the relation between El Greco and Central European expressionism, surrealism and other trends.

Thyssen, con una muestra que propone una visión
nueva de esta corriente, vista desde la perspectiva
del siglo XXI. Con más de 100 obras expuestas,
la visita a esta exposición nos permitirá descubrir
cuadros de los pioneros del pop británico, el pop
clásico estadounidense y toda la influencia que tuvo
en Europa esta corriente. Junto con la exposición
de Richard Hamilton en el Reina Sofía, Madrid se
convierte este verano en la capital mundial del Arte
Pop.

First exhibition of pop art in Madrid since the
one hosted by the Reina Sofia Museum, back in
1992. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, with an
exhibition that offers a new vision of this artistic
trend, seen from the perspective of the 21st century.
Over 100 works shown at this exhibition that worth
a visit, allowing us to find paintings from British pop
art pioneers, American classic pop art pop and the
influence it had in Europe. Together with Richard
Hamilton exhibition at the Reina Sofía Museum, this
two events make Madrid be the world capital of Pop
Art.

La exposición ofrece un recorrido retrospectivo por la obra del artista británico clave para el Pop Art. Esta muestra es, además, el último trabajo expositivo en el que Hamiltón participó directamente. En ella se aborda la variedad de géneros y temáticas que trabajó, así como la cantidad de técnicas utilizadas.
Esta muestra se presenta divivida en apartados que consiguen seguir un orden cronológico (con alguna excepción) y donde se pueden encontrar algunas de las obras más importantes de Richard Hamilton, algunas vitales para el nacimiento y desarrollo del Arte Pop.

This exhibition is a retrospective look at the work of British artist, key to the Pop Art, Richard Hamilton. It is also the last exhibition that Hamilton was directly involved in. The purpose is to show the variety of genres and themes that Hamilton was able to work with as well as the different techniques used in his work.
This exhibition is divided into different sections trying to follow a chronological order (with some exceptions) where you can find some of the most important works by Richard Hamilton, some of them essential to the birth and development of Pop Art.

Festival internacional de fotografía y artes visuales que se ha consolidado con el paso del tiempo y es ahora una de las citas internacionales más importantes. PHotoEspaña no se concentra en una sola sede sino que ocupa varias salas de exposiciones, museos, centros de arte o galerías repartidas por toda la ciudad, cada una con una muestra diferente. La mayor parte de las salas participantes están en el centro.
Junto con el festival, se desarrolla una agenda paralela de actividades en torno al mundo de la fotografía, con talleres para profesionales y aficionados, actividades para niños, conferencias, visitas, concursos, …

After a long time closed for renovations the National The International Festival of Photography, is now one of the most important international events of visual arts in Spain. Its first edition was back in 1998. PhotoEspaña is not placed in a single location but occupies several exhibition halls, museums, art centers and galleries scattered throughout the city, each with its own exhibition. Most venues are located downtown Madrid.
Along with the festival, many activities related to the world of photography: workshops for professionals and amateurs, children’s activities, conferences, visits, competitions, ...

El festival musical que nació en 1985 se ha ido consolidando con el paso del tiempo y tras veintinueve ediciones llega al verano en plena forma para llenar de música la progra-mación cultural de la capital durante los meses más calurosos del año.
Madrid llena así su programación de conciertos, bajo la marca de los “Veranos de la Villa“, ponien-do el ojo de nuevo en los Jardines de Sabatini, como escenario principal de los espectáculos musicales y propuestas escénicas de este verano de 2014, pero no estará solo.
“Veranos de la Villa” which literally means “Summers at the village (of Madrid)” is the name of the music festival that was born in 1985 and now has become the brand under which Madrid city includes all the culture, art, music or theatrical activities for people dur-ing the warmest season of the year.
Madrid fills its agenda of summer activities putting the eye into the stage that every year is build up in the Sabatini gardens (next to the Royal palace). This stage is the heart of the Veranos de la Villa festival, but is not the only venue to host events or activities.

Los Jardines de Sabatini, tradicional escenario de la programación de los Veranos de la Villa no lo será menos en esta edición y de hecho la progra-mación en este privilegiado enclave se extiende hasta finales de agosto. Destacan las propuestas relacionadas con el folclore español, flamenco y voces de nuestro país: “Gitano” (con Joaquín Cor-tés), José Mercé, El Lebrijano, Remembranzas (con Carmen Linares), El Cabrero, Pasió Vega, Estrella Morente, Miguel Poveda, Valderrama con Mónica Molina y Martirio con Raúl Rodríguez. También hay programación escénica: ballet con el Ballet de Moscú (interpretando El Lago de los Cisnes o Giselle), Victor Ullate hijo, La Revoltosa, La Venganza de Don Mendo, o Ibérica de Danza. Mientras, en el calendario del Price destacan las actuaciones de Diego el Cigala, Jorge Drexler, Carlos Núñez, Coque Maya o Andrés Calamaro, pero no son los únicos. Las actividades de Veranos de la Villa se completan con las propuestas en escenarios distintos al Price o los Jardines de Sabatini:La Plaza Mayor acoge al Orquesta y Coro de RTVE que interpreta Carmina Burana en el Concierto Extraordinario de Inauguración del Mundial de Balon-cesto el 29 de Agosto. La Galería de Cristal de CentroCentro (Palacio Cibeles) propone Cine de Verano:
“The Cinema”, desde el 5 de julio al 31 agosto, todos los días de 20:00 a 2:00 (excepto lunes). También se puede ver cine en el Parque de la Bombilla, con su ya tradicional
cine de verano (del 26 de Junio al 7 de Septiembre), bajo el nombre de “Fescinal” y en el Centro Conde Duque, durante el mes de julio.
La música es protagonista también en el Conde Duque, allí se puede disfrutar de varios conciertos de la Banda Sinfónica Municipal (10, 17 y 24 de Julio)
además de teatro (“El Señor de las Moscas”) los días 9, 10, 16, 18, 23 y 25 de Julio.
El Jardín Botánico Alfonso XIII de la Universidad Complutense será sede del festival Madgarden’14. El Centro Cultural Galileo acoge
los “Veranos del Galileo”. Los más pequeños pueden disfrutar de Titirilandia (Títeres en el Retiro) del 10 de Julio al 31 de
Agosto.
La música más actual estará en las salas de La Noche en Vivo (Asoc. de Salas de Música en directo) y esta
año también en el Hipódromo de la Zarzuela que acogerá conciertos de Kiko Veneno y Los en-
emigos (27 junio), Macaco (11 julio) y el festi-val “Tomavistas” (pop, rock y electrónica los
días 18, 19, 25 y 26 de julio). Por último, la Fundación Olivar del Castillejo ofrecerá
ha programado conciertos, teatro y cine bajo el programa “Noches del
Olivar”.

The Jardines de Sabatini stage, placed at a privileged location hosts many music events, most of the related to Spanish folkore, flamenco dancing and singing stars such as José Mercé, Lebrijano, El Cabrero, Pasión Vega, Estrella Morente, Miguel Poveda, Valderrama, Mónica Molina , Martirio or Raul Rodriguez. Also Spanish dancer Joaquin Cortes will act with the show called “Gitano” (Gypsy).
There are also scenic proposals: ballet with the Moscow Ballet (performing Swan Lake or Giselle), Victor Ullate Jr., La Revoltosa, La Venganza de Don Mendo, or Ibérica de Danza.
Circo Price is the place to see live concerts from Diego el Cigala, Jorge Drexler, Carlos Nunez, Andres Calamaro or Coque Maya.
The Plaza Mayor welcomes the RTVE Orchestra and Choir performing Carmina Burana in a concert celebrating the opening of the basketball world cup (Spain 2014).
The Crystal Gallery at CentroCentro (Palacio Cibeles) proposes Summer Cinema: “The Cinema”, from July 5th to August 31st, daily from 20:00 to 2:00 (except Monday). You can also watch movies at Parque de la Bombilla, with its traditional summer cinema (June 26th to September 7th), under the name of “Fescinal” and also at the Conde Duque Cultural Center with movies during July.
Conde Duque Cultural Center is also a place for music or theatre. You may enjoy up to three concers by Madrid Symphnic Orchestra (July 10th, 17th and 24th), and theatre: “El Señor de las Moscas” during July.
The Botanical Garden of Alfonso XIII (Complutense University) will host the festival Madgarden’14. The Galileo Cultural Center hosts the “Summers of Galileo.” Children
may enjoy Titirilandia (Puppets in “El Retiro” Park).
Finally, many bars and small concert halls will offer concerts during the Summer (check them under the name of “La Noche en Vivo”. The Zarzuela Hippodrome
will host concerts by Kiko Veneno and Los Enemigos (June 27th), Macaco (July 11th) and the “Tomavistas” festival (pop, rock and electronic music
on July 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th). The Olivar Castillejo Foundation has scheduled concerts, theater and cinema under the “Olivar
Nights” program.

What to see in Madrid in two days? That is one of the main questions
that we receive from visitors here in Madrid Irresistible. Madrid has plenty of activities and places to be visited:
monuments , museums, on walk tours, parks, shopping places, etcetera.
People usually spend 2 or 3 days walking through the capital so our proposal is to
start your visit at the known area of : “Paseo del Arte” . Actually its name is Paseo del
Prado and it goes from Atocha to Neptuno , just a 750 meters walk where the three
great museums of the city are located: Prado , Reina Sofia and Thyssen . They are not the only
cultural attractions of the area, where you can also find CaixaForum, or in case you love nature: the Botanical Garden and “El Retiro” are very close.
Quite close to the great museums, you may continue your visit with our cultural route. through the Barrio de las Letras , go along Huertas and Prado streets , see the Spanish Parlament, and stop by Plaza de Santa
Ana and in case you are hungry enjoy any of the tapas at the restaurants around.
Almost without realizing of it… you have reached the Puerta del Sol , the heart of the city. From here you can start any route , a historic walk into the Madrid de los Austrias , by Mayor and Arenal streets , visiting Plaza de la Villa , Plaza
Mayor, the Royal Theatre and ending at the Royal Palace. Be sure to visit the squares and gardens surrounding the Palace
and the Almudena Cathedral .If you’re hungry now , do not doubt it: Mercado de San Miguel is
your place, but also all the streets around offer a wide variety of Spanish gastronomy. If you are a gastronomy lover: go dowh to “La
Latina “ district.
Another route that can be started from the Puerta del Sol is going up at Preciados or Carmen streets towards the Gran Via. This is the modern
Madrid, with trendy shops, and alternative neighborhoods such as Malasaña or Chueca (gay district). Go down the Gran Vía until you reach the Cibeles square, and then the Puerta de Alcalá, a perfect place to go
shopping around at the Barrio de Salamanca. Serrano is the Street for those who want the last fashion designs.
We do not want to make you miss the opportunity to go to the other side of the Gran Vía, and go down towards Plaza de España and then visit Parque del
Oeste, a big park where you will find an unexpected monument: an Egyptian temple just in the center of Madrid, and by the way, with great views to the west.

O lo que es lo mismo: ¿qué ver en Madrid en dos días? esa es una de las grandes preguntas que nos llegan a Madrid Irresistible por parte de aquellos que quieren visitar Madrid y conocer los lugares, monumentos, museos, etc imprescindible en su escapada para hacer turismo por la capital.Si vas a estar 2 ó 3 días paseando por la capital nuestra propuesta no puede empezar en otro sitio que el llamado “Paseo del Arte”. este barrio siempre ha sido ejemplo de modernidad y fue donde surgió la famosa
“movida madrileña”. Por eso, además de ser el área preferida por el colectivo gay y
transexual, cada vez son más los que salen por estas calles para vivir la noche.
En verano, tienes que visitar las terrazas de los alrededores de la plaza de Chueca, que
siempre tienen buen ambiente. Y, por supuesto, si quieres conocer todo cuanto te ofrece la
ciudad de Madrid más abierta, visítala durante la celebración del Orgullo Gay (última semana
de junio). Durante esos días hay conciertos y espectáculos en la calle y tiene lugar el desfile
de carrozas y disfraces, que inunda la zona de banderas del arco iris.

Chueca area, where all inhibitions have been cast aside to make way for fun and tolerance, and
where you’ll find a whole host of wicked venues, techno discos and designer clubs. In fact this
neighbourhood has always been a beacon of modernity, and was the birthplace of the famous
“movida madrileña” (a countercultural movement of the 70s and 80s). And as well as being the
favourite hangout of the gay and transsexual community, the streets in this area are becoming
more and more popular with anyone looking for first-rate nightlife.
In summer, it’s well worth visiting the outdoor terraces in the surroundings of the Plaza de
Chueca square, where you’re always guaranteed to find a great atmosphere. And of course if you want to see for yourself everything that’s on offer in this most openly tolerant of cities, why not visit Madrid during Gay Pride Week (last week of June)? The event features open air concerts and shows, as well as a
parade of floats and fancy dress, while the whole area is awash
with rainbow flags.

Los más modernos como el Juan Carlos I o Madrid Río, aun carecen de grandes extensiones arboladas y a la sombra, pero en el caso de Madrid Río resultan ideales para refrescarse con su “Playa de Madrid”. El Retiro, un espacio de relax en pleno centro, cuenta incluso con programación cultural con títeres para los más pequeños. Otros parques importantes como el del Oeste (con el Templo de Debod), el de Tierno Galván (Planetario e IMAX) o la Casa de Campo (Parque de Atracciones, Zoo-Aquarium) cuentan con sus propios recintos para el ocio.Nuestra recomendación particular es el parque “El Capricho”, un gran desconocido incluso para muchos madrileños, al que se puede llegar fácilmente en metro (Metro: El Capricho), pero recuerde que sólo abre los fines de semana. Además, y si no lo conoce, puede también visitar el Real Jardín Botánico, con ejemplares traídos de todo el mundo (eso sí, recuerde que la entrada cuesta 3€).Si prefiere escaparse y visitar zonas alejadas de la ciudad tampoco tiene que irse muy lejos. La Sierra de Madrid ofrece numerosas rutas, algunas muy refrescantes y recomendables. La piscina natural en Rascafría es una de las opciones más tentadoras para los madrileños, pero también puede bañarse en el embalse de San Juan (San Martín de Valdeiglesias), la playa de Alberche (Aldea del Fresno) o la charca verde en el cauce del río Manzanares (La Pedriza).
Los amantes de la cultura están de enhorabuena este verano. Madrid se convierte en la capital mundial del arte pop con dos exposiciones que estarán en la capital todo el ve-
rano y que probablemente se conviertan en las más visitadas del año. Por un lado el Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza organiza “Mitos del Pop” una gran exposición con los
obras de los grandes artistas de este movimiento. Mientras tanto, el Museo Reina Sofía acerca a Madrid los trabajos más importantes de Richard Hamilton, uno
de los precursores de esta corriente. No son las únicas exposiciones que destacan este verano: PHotoEspaña
acerca el mundo de la fotografía a los ciudadanos, con exposiciones en numerosas salas y locales por todo Madrid. Por su parte, el Museo del
Prado apuesta por reunir en una exposición las grandes obras de El Greco para mostrar su influencia en la pintura moderna.
La agenda musical para este verano la marca “Veranos de la Villa”, un certamen que todos los veranos, desde los años 80,
acerca a la capital a grandes creadores musicales de todos los géneros: flamenco, soul, pop, rock, R&B, jazz, reg-
gae, … además en los últimos años se ha enriquecido el festival, agrupando bajo su marca actividades,
teatrales, de danza, talleres, títeres, exposiciones, … en definitiva: toda la agenda cultural organi-
zada por el Ayuntamiento de Madrid durante el verano. De entre todas las actividades,
destacaremos una: la posibilidad de ver cine al aire libre, con el cine de verano
del Parque de la Bombilla y la pro-gramación de Fescinal.

Summer is already here in Madrid and that means high temperatures, longer days and endless outdoor activities, but also places where you can shelter from the sweltering afternoon heat.Best of Madrid in Summer is enjoying the sunset with a nice walk downtown (sunset at Templo de Debod is a must), having dinner or just a drink in a terrace and then take advantage of a full agenda of activities (theaters, concerts, parties, ...) on the street or in a park.One of the best ideas to avoid the heat is visiting any city park. Juan Carlos I park (north) or Madrid Rio (south) are modern parks still with not many trees to provide shade areas. But we have to mention that in the last few years Madrid has opened the “Beach of Madrid” at Madrid Río, a place to enjoy the sun next to ground fountains. El Retiro, a relaxing space in the city center, has its own cultural life, specially for kids with puppets shows. Other major parks are: Parque del Oeste (Templo de Debod), the Tierno Galván (Planetarium and IMAX) or Casa de Campo (Amusement Park, Zoo-Aquarium) the three of them with their own venues for leisure.We recommend you to visit El Capricho”, largely unknown even to many locals, but easily reached by underground (Metro: El Capricho). Remember: is only open on weekends. You can also visit the Royal Botanic Garden (next to the Prado Museum), with specimens brought from all around the world (entry costs 3€). If you prefer to get away and visit remote areas from the city, you may check : Sierra de Madrid which offers many routes, some very refreshing for hiking. The natural pool in Rascafría is one of the most tempting options for locals. Swimming at the San Juan reservoir is also an option (at San Martin de Valdeiglesias) or maybe at the Alberche Beach (Aldea del Fresno). Last, but not least, an option for hikers: the “charca verde” (a tiny lake) at the Manzanares River (La Pedriza). Culture lovers are in luck this summer. Madrid is the world capital of pop art with two exhibitions that
will be in the capital throughout the summer and will probably become the most visited of the year. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum organizes “Pop Myths” a major exhibition with
works from the great artists of this trend. Meanwhile, the Reina Sofia Museum brings to Madrid the most important works from Richard Hamilton, one of the forerunners of
Pop Art.Those are not the only exhibitions to highlight this summer: PhotoEspaña brings
the world of photography closer to citizens, with several exhibitions in different venues downtown Madrid. Meanwhile, the Prado Museum in make its bid
with great works from El Greco, to show his influence on modern painting.Music is also an important part of Madrid agenda for summer. “Veranos
de la Villa”: an event that every summer, since the 80s, brings major music artists of all genres to the city: flamenco, soul, pop, rock, R
