4-H members learn ‘superhero’ leadership skills

Lindsey Bonk, Kara Carnes,

Rebecca Keasey, Trevor Neumeister and

Taylor Stillwell joined more than 100 seventh

and eighth grade youth at the 2014 Illinois 4-H

Junior Leadership Conference that was held

Feb. 7 and 8 at the Decatur Conference Cen-

ter and Hotel in Decatur.

Youth learned ways to sharpen those

“superhero” leadership skills during their two

day conference. With the theme “Saving the

World Through Leadership,” the young

people learned that they can begin to change

the world by taking action in their local 4-H

clubs and their local communities.

Fun in the Sun Thank you to all the leaders that were able to participate in the Leader’s Workshop in January! It

was a fun-filled day of networking with other leaders, sharing ideas, and learning new strategies to

implement in clubs. This program wouldn’t be a success with-

out our volunteers; thank you very much for your continuous

dedication and support.

Thank you for attending: Laurie Raymond, Lori Denton, Diana Loehr, Margaret

Weis, Sammie Neumeister, Debbie Adamick, Sandy Ohren, Connie Frick, Joy

Roberson, Carol Seibert, Heidi Ruwald, Sarah Sparwasser, Raeleen Neary,

Annette Schreder, Kathy Reifschneider, Nancy Sewell, Gene Kraemer, Karen

Matzenbacher, Karen Eschmann, Kim Doiron, Rita Bohn, Sarah Bohn, Angie

Kinzinger, Melissa Epps

Page 8 MADISON COUNTY Reminders

Attention: All Livestock Members Quality Assurance and Ethics

All 4-H members that enroll in ANY livestock project must complete the online Quality Assurance and Ethics training. If you have already done this in the past, you will not need to complete it again, unless you did not print a certificate of verification with your name on it. New this year: this Quality Assurance & Ethics training applies to anyone planning to show livestock at the County Fair as well as the State Fair. This training also applies to those who plan to do a poster at General Show Day about their livestock project. A statewide deadline for completion will be May 1st, and any 4-H livestock members that do not have the training done by the deadline will have their name removed from the livestock project they had enrolled in. This would mean you could not show for 4-H or receive 4-H premiums or awards.

If internet access is not available, 4-H members may come to the Extension Office to complete the training. Please call and set up an appointment with us at (618) 344-4230. Once you have completed the training, your name appears on a register that the Extension Office can refer to. This is a one-time training, good for all your 4-H years.

You must complete the basic training plus choose one species, and complete that. You do not have to do more than one species, no matter how many you show.

National Volunteer Week, April 6-13, 2014

As National Volunteer Week is approaching, we would like to take this op-

portunity to thank all parents and volunteers for being so dedicated to our

4-H Program. Statistics have shown that leaders spend approximately 10

hours per month dedicated to 4-H Programming. Thank you to all of our

leaders:

Congratulations to Club Leaders and Officers on their dedication to keeping

financial records in order. We received word from the University that all clubs have completed all of the IRS requirements. Let’s just say, “That’s huge!” Thank you for making Illinois 4-H look great and keep up the good work!!!

~THANK YOU~ We recently received a thank you from Woodford County 4-H families for the donations

from all of you. All of the families who lost their homes in the tornado have found temporary housing and they are all looking forward to rebuilding in the spring to find a

new “normal” in their lives.
