The legendary Unidachs

Powerful, flexible, perennial

In 1959 the UNIDACHS prototype with its unique telescopic boom

and the resulting low height with simultaneously long reach

was developed. Like a badger it burrowed and levelled below

the conveyor belts in the open-pit coal mines. At the end of the

sixties the steel industry became aware of the telescopic boom

with its option for utilising various working tool attachments, and

the Unidachs became even sturdier, even stronger and even more

universal. Since that time the iron and steel industry cannot im-

agine being without them.

As worldwide market leader in furnace de-bricking machines in

the iron and steel industry we set the highest demands on our

ideas and actions. With the latest electronics combined with the

most modern hydraulic technology, the Unidachs is now counted

as one of the most efficient, reliable and durable machines that

the market has to offer. Its strengths lie in applications in which

linear movements in conjunction with a rotation of the boom are

required. For example:

• De-bricking of converters, electric furnaces ladles and tundishes

• Cleaning out blast furnace runners

• Hot skull cleaning of ladles and converter mouths

• Wrecking and cleaning of torpedo cars

• Cleaning of induction furnaces

Upper structure• Robust heat-resistant steel design, built for rough use

in high-temperature areas

• All technical components on the upper structure behind

lockable metal doors

• Compact dimensions and 360° continuously slewable

upper structure

• Highest degree of safety thanks to handrail and

boarding steps for the maintenance personnel

• Latest diesel-hydraulic motors with low emission

CONVERTERConverter mouth cleaning• Regular cleaning of the converter mouth is important

for a smooth production process

• The Unidachs is designed for the extreme temperatures

of the converter vessels

Tap hole drilling and sleeve setting• The Unidachs 423 precisely drills and inserts the tap

hole sleeve from one position without having to

re-position the machine

Lining Repair• The shooter sprays the refractory material in the hot

converter exactly to the areas where the refractory

lining is worn out

• Increases the useful life of the converter

De-bricking• The Unidachs allows the de-bricking of the converters

immediately after the last heat in order to reduce the

downtime of the vessels

Blast furnace runner clearing• The Unidachs is compact and manoeuvrable, fitting

perfectly on to the cast house floor

• Thanks to the telescopic boom it fits under structures

and platforms without any problems to reach the tap

hole area

• The cleaning and wrecking of the runners and the tap

hole is important for a problem-free production process

• Thanks to its special design, the Unidachs is right at

home in this high temperature environment


ELECTRIC ARC FURNACEEAF breakout• The unique kinematics of the Unidachs make working

on electric arc furnaces a lot easier

• Thanks to the special design and heat resistance, the

Unidachs can start breaking out in hot condition imme-

diately after the last heat in order not to lose valuable

production time

Charging, stoking and cleaning• Charging the alloy additives in the desired quantities in

the right place is important to achieve the correct grade

of steel

• Pushing scrap into the furnace or cleaning the furnace

door requires extremely manoeuvrable machines that

are designed for this operation

Cleaning the slag pit• Cleaning slag pits is a great challenge for men and

machines

• TML offers integrated solutions: From conversions of

crawler loaders or wheel loaders, to the upgrading of

machines with remote control systems to keep people

away from the danger area

LADLE MAINTENANCEDe-skulling• The basis of clean steel is a well maintained and clean

ladle

• The Unidachs works with a ripper hook precisely and

safely in the hot ladle

Porous plug pushing• The cleaning of the ladle bottom to free the porous

plug of scale is carried out effortlessly by the Unidachs

• With the porous plug pusher attachment, the porous

plug can be pushed out quickly and precisely

Ladle wrecking• Ladle wrecking is simplified through the accurate,

360° rotatable and telescopic boom

• Thanks to the special design of the Unidachs, ladles can

be wrecked at high temperatures, thus reducing the

downtime

Slag raking• Slag skimming or raking of hot metal requires bespoke

machinery

• The skimming process requires telescopic strokes of up

to 10,000 mm and a precise operation for the lowest

possible loss of material when removing the slag

Our philosophy towards the environmentAs a result of our strong belief in sustainable treatment of the

environment, we are committed to using resources with care. Our

commitment is active. The company has been ECOPROFIT certi-

fied since 2011 (ECOPROFIT®, the “ECOlogical PROject for Inte-

grated Environmental Technology”). The aim of this programme

is to promote sustainable economic and ecological development,

while at the same time reducing costs by implementing a system

of integrated measures. The main topics are: increasing materials

efficiency, reducing water and energy consumption, and cutting

the amount of waste.
