MAD ENOUGH TO CUSS!

A presentation by Derrick-Lewis Noble1-14-2015

6 Ways To Keep Yourself From “Blowing Up”

I.

Resolve to control it.

“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.”

Ecclesiastes 7:9

II. Remember the cost.

“One given to anger stirs up strife, and the hothead causes much transgression.”

Proverbs 29:22 (NRSV)

“Those who are hot-tempered stir up strife, but those who are slow to anger calm contention.”

Proverbs15:18 (NRSV)

“One who is quick-tempered acts foolishly, and the schemer is hated.”

Proverbs 14:17 (NRSV)

III.

Reflect before reacting.

“A fool gives full vent to anger, but the wise quietly holds it back.”

Proverbs 29:11 (NRSV)

“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.”

Ephesians 4:26

“Those with good sense are slow to anger, and it is their glory to overlook an offense.”

Proverbs 19:11 (NRSV)

IV.

Release your anger appropriately.

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord…

“…On the contrary: ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Romans 12: 17-21

V.Re-pattern your

mind.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

“Make no friends with those given to anger, and do not associate with hotheads, or you may learn their ways and entangle yourself in a snare.”

Proverbs 22: 24-25 (NRSV)

VI.

Rely on God’s control.

“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Psalm 141:3
