While GDP growth picked up in the third quarter, business investment remains weak. As a result of further decreases in investment inequipment, total real nonresidential investment fell 1.2 percent in Q3. Investment in equipment adjusts relatively quickly to changingbusiness prospects and often precedes further decreases in investment in structures, which take longer to show up.
