ProductDescriptionTheHeathZenithSL-5410-AMotionSensorLightControlcontrolsoutdoorlightingtoprovidesecurityandsafetyconvenientlytoyourhomeandgarage.Itdoesthisbysensingheatfrommovingobjects.Ithasthecapabilityofcontrolling500wattsorlessoflighting.Byusingbuilt-intimeadjustingphotocell,itcanbeautomaticallyswitchedonoroffaftersomanyminutes/hours.Forclarification,seetheimagetotherightforanexampleandpartnamesofaPhotocell.

SpecificationsMaximumLightingLoad:500watts,incandescentRange:Upto50ft.RequiredElectricalPower:120V,60Hz,1Watt(onlyforLightingControl)TotalSize:61/4”X21/2”X4.5NetWeight14oz.

PreparingToBeginBeforebeginningtoconstructyourSL-5410-AMotionSensorLightControl,makesuretofollowtheserules/guidelinestoensureyoursafetyandtheproduct’ssafety:

1) SelectalocationfortheLightingControlbasedonthecoverageanglesshownin

sourcewaterorobjectswhichmaychangetemperaturesrapidly.DONOTlocatetheLightControloverheatingventsorairconditioners.DONOTallowsunlightto

falldirectlyonthefrontofthedevice.

Note: LocalbuildingcodesmayrequireinstallationoftheLightControlbepreformedbyaqualifiedelectrician.Toavoidafine,checkyourlocalcodesastheyapplytoyourstate.Ifyourhouse’swiringisaluminum,consultanelectricianaboutproperwiringmethods.

coloredobjectssincethereflectionmaytriggerthedaylightshutofffeature.DONOTpointthecontrollightsorotherlightsattheLightControl.

5) Thedetectorismostsensitivetomotionacrossitsdetectionfieldandleastsensitivetomotiondirectlytowardsthedetector,asshowninFigure2(right).

6) DONOTallowhalogenlampstoshinedirectlyattheLightingControlcase.

7) ThesensormustbemountedasshowninFigure3withthecontrolsfacingdownwardtoavoidtheriskofelectricalshock.

8) Figure3(below)alsoshowstwotypicalinstallations.ThelampsaretobeoneitheroftheLightControl.DONOTlettheControltouchthelampholderorlamp,asdamagingorunstableoperationmayoccur.

Note:TheLightingControlrequires120VoltsACcontrolledbyaswitch.ThetotalpowerSwitchedMUSTNOTexceed500watts.

MountingTheSL-5410-AMotionSensorLightcontrolismadeformountingaboveafrontdoororagaragedoor.AsdescribedinPreparationpart7andshowninFigure3(SeeFigure3above),themountingofyourLightcontrolMUSTbemountedoneofthetwowaysfollowing:1. Installthepreferredlampinitsdesignatedholder,andputthecontrol

system(backendfacingoutward)inplaceoftheotherlamp.2. Installbothlampsintheirdesignatedholders,andputthecontrolsystem

inthemiddleofthetwolampholders.

Caution: ProductDamage.Productdamagecancauseyoursystemtobreak.Toavoidthis,makesuretonotletthemountingcontroltouchorrestonthelampholderorlamp(s)afterinstallation.

NewInstallations

FolloweachstepEXACTLYforthesafestandmosteffectiveforwiring:1. Routethepowerwiringfromafusedorcircuitbreakerpowersourcethroughto

aswitchand,lastly,toyourLightingControl(SeeFigure4below).2. Installafittingjunctionboxatthelocationofwhereyoudecidedtoputyour

LightingControl(centerorinplaceofalampholder).3. Ifnecessary,routeathree(3)-wiredapprovedcablefromthelighttothe

junctionbox.Caution: ProductInactive.Productbeinginactive,inthisparticularcase,

couldresultintheSL-5410-Atonotturnon.Toavoidthis,allthree(3)wiresMUSTbesuitableforcarryingacurrent.Ifyouuseametalboxforinstalling,thecableneedsagroundingwire.

4. Runthepowerwiresthroughthegaskethole.

Note: IfyourSL-5410-ALightControlhasalreadybeeninstalled,skipthissectionandresumeto“New&ExistingInstallations.”

DANGER: ElectricalShock.ElectricalShockcanleadtoseverepersonalinjuryorevendeath.Toavoidthis,makesurethepowertoyourcircuitbreakerorfuseisTURNEDOFFbeforeproceedingtowire.

New&ExistingInstallationsThefollowingsectionhasmanytermsthatmeanmorethanwhattheyappear.Forexample,“black”and“whitewires”heredon’tonlymeancolors.Allusesofthesetermsinthissectionareitalicizedandboldedforeasynoticeability.Pleasereadthetableofdefinitionsbelowcarefullybeforebeginningwiring:

GroundingWire

Thiswireprotectstheexposedmetalbyprovidingapathofcurrenttothegroundbelow.Thiswiremayappearasbaremetalormayhaveagreenlining.

WhiteWire(a.k.a.NeutralWire) Thiswirehaszero(0)voltagetoground.Itsprotectivecoveringiswhite.

BlackWire(a.k.a.HotWire) Thiswirehasa120V(Volts)potentiallygoingdowntoground.

FollowtheinstructionsbelowtosuccessfullysetupthewiringtotheSL-5410-A.UseFigure5(down,leftside)andFigure6(down,rightside)forextraguidance.

1. Ifused,connectthegroundingwirefromthepowersourcetothebareground

wireinthecontrolledcircuit.2. Nowconnectthegroundwiretothejunction(outlet)boxgroundingscrew.

Connectthewiresbytightlytwistingthemtogetherandsecuringthemwithsolder-lesswireconnectors(SeeFigure4onlastpage).

3. Connectthewhitewirefromthepowersource,thewhitewirefromtheLightingControl,andthewhitewirefromeachlampholder(SeeFigure5).

4. ConnecttheblackwirefromthepowersourceandtheblackwirefromtheLightingControltogether.

5. ConnecttheredwirefromtheLightingControlandtheblackwirefromeachlampholdertogether.

Note: Thecovergasket(Part5inthepackage)isnotincludedinthefollowingFigure(Figure5).ItisvisibleinFigure6.Also,makesurethecovergasketisevenlyadjustedandplacedtoallfour(4)sidesofthecoverbeforeresuming.

ADJUSTINGThefollowingtwo(2)sectionswillshowyouhowtomakeautomaticadjustmentstoyourLightControl.Thiswillallowyoutoadjusthowlongyourlightstaysonaftermotionisdetected,andyouwilllearnhowtogetthelight(s)toturnon/offthroughouttheday.

TimeAdjustmentTheTimeadjustmentcontrolshowlongthelightstaysonaftermotionhasbeendetected.

1. TurntheTimeControltomid-position.Payattentiontohowlongittakesforthelightingtoturnoffaftermotionhasfrozenorleftthelight’sdetectionradius.

2. Adjustthecontrolclockwisetoincreasetheturn-offtime,andcounter-clockwisetodecreasetheturn-offtime.

LightAdjustmentTheLightadjustmentdetermineswhenthelightlevelontheLightControlwillshutoffwheninAutoMode(Seenextstep).TheLightLevelControlwassetcounter-clockwise(TESTposition)inproductionsoitcanoperateindaylight.Tofixthis,dothefollowing:1. Atdawn,turntheLightLevelControlclockwise.2. Atdusk,SLOWLYturntheLightLevelControlcounter-clockwiseagain.That’sit!NowtheLightControlwillonlybeactivefromdusktodawn.

AutoModeInAutoMode,theLightControldetectsmotionandturnsonthelightingautomaticallyforasettimelimit.AutoModeisactivatedwhenpowertothelighthasbeenturnedoffformorethanfive(5)secondsandthenturnedbackon.

Note: Whenincreasingtheturn-offtime,itcanonlybeincreasedbyseven(7)minutesmaximum;decreasingturn-offtimecanonlybeadjustedbyten(10)minutesmaximum.

ManualOverrideManualOverridekeepsthelightonregardlessofmotionorlightlevel.Todothis,simplyfliptheswitchonanoffwithinone(1)secondwhileyou’reinAutoMode.

OperationByusingthewallswitchtoyourLightingControl,youcanpickoneoftwooperatingmodesforthemotionsensorlamps.ThosetwomodesareAutoandManual.

TestModeTestmodewillallowyoutotestthecoverageradiusoftheyourmotionsensorlight.Tobegin,followthesesteps:

1. TurntheLightandTimeControlscompletelycounter-clockwisetotheTestPosition(SeeFigure7totheright).

2. Turnthewallswitchon.Thelightingwillturnonforaboutone(1)minutethenoffagain.Thisshowsthewiringwasdoneproperlyandthatthelampswork.

3. Walkthroughthecoveragearea.Thelightwillturnonwhenmotionissensedandwillturnoffshortlyaftermotionstops.Waitten(10)secondsbetweentestmotions.• Youcanchangethelight’scoverageareabyadjustingtheballjoint.

• LightControlispointedtowardaheatsourcelikeanairvent,dryervent,orbrightlypaintedheat-reflectiveservice.Tryrepositioningthesensor.

• LightControlisinManualMode.SwitchittoAuto.Lightsflashonandoff • Heatorlightfromlampsmaybeturninglight

controlonandoff.Tryrepositioningthelampsawayfromthesensor.

• LightControlisinTestmodeandiswarmingup.(Note:Flashingisnormalundertheseconditions).
