Acording to ‘Wright et al‘ Machu Piccu

was build around 1450, at the height of

inca empire. Machu Picchu is located

between two mountains. It is

located about forty-three miles northwest

of Cuzco, the capital if the Peru.

Legend has it that it was a summer city for

the king of Kusco. It was abandoned just

over 100 years later, in 1572, because of

the Spanish Conquest. But the true fact is

not clear.

When the Incas built Machu Picchu they shapedthe stones of the buildings so exact that to this dayyou can't fit a thin knife between the stones. The stones aren't staying together because of mortarbut because of pure craftsmanship.

The homes were shaped like a pentagonal prism. The strange thing about the building in MachuPicchu is they were built without roofs. Some ofthe buildings were built in a rectangular prismshapes. The doors of most of the buildings weretrapezoid shaped. The only buildings with roofswere the homes that were on the outside ofMachu Picchu, they were very small huts, and theSapa Inca's temples.

Machu Picchu is located at an altitude of

2,400 meters (7,875 ft.) above sea level.

The site was forgotten by the world until

1911, when it was discovered by Hiram

Bingham, an American historian.

Wonders Of The World.
