Primary Skills & Qualifications• A valid interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a Machinist

with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in repair and service of heavy equipment and facilities both in the shop and in the field

• Welding and fabrication experience holding CWB certification with an emphasis on equipment, structural and ground engaging tool maintenance best practices in the shop and field.

• Certification and relevant experience operating lathes, boring machines, milling machines, boom trucks, Telehandler, Forklifts, EWPs, Cranes, Fuel/Lube and service trucks.

• Previous experience working in a remote Arctic operation with camp accommodations working with employees of all competency levels including developing individuals with minimal experience at apprenticeship levels performing maintenance activities

• SAP maintenance systems expertise desirable• Experience mentoring, providing solid direction and demonstrating safety leadership in harsh arctic field

environments and in the workshops.• Excellent troubleshooting, measuring, drafting, computer use and diagnostic skills • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications. • Language: Speak English, Read English, Write English (Inuktitut would be an asset). • Previous mining experience is an asset. • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.• Able to work outdoors in all-weather condition

Responsibilities

• Set up and safe operation of all machining equipment such as milling machines, lathes, line boring equipment, welding equipment, measuring tools etc.

• Perform safety interactions and complete field level risk assessments before task commencement. Perform and participate in Job Hazard Analysis when required to ensure all risks are identified and controlled.

• Attend and participate in daily safety tool box talks, periodic safety meetings, routine and statutory safety inspections and planned task observations as required.

• Participate in the development of safe work procedures/ instructions and promote safety, health and environmental awareness and compliance at all times.

• Comply with all of the appropriate Baffinland and Equipment manufacturer’s procedures/instructions/manuals diligently while performing all tasks without incident and in an environmentally responsible manner.

• Measuring, machining, line boring, rebuilding, repairing and overhauling of equipment and facilitates as required. • The diagnosis and troubleshooting of equipment problems; identifying and replacing failed components, worn or

broken parts, making all necessary adjustments and alignments and performing quality repairs. • Preventative maintenance focus with strong inspection and defect identification skills

• Strong focus on housekeeping in the field, in the shop and any other work areas. Cleaning work areas and equipment as required.

• Installation and removal of bearings, bushings, pins, and other machined components during overhauls using welding, gouging, installation equipment, hydraulic presses, pulling equipment, liquid nitrogen as well as any other tools associated with the tasks

assigned. • Perform welding, grinding, gouging, bore rebuilding as required to complete tasks assigned

• Using manual and laser alignment equipment, create detailed drawings, ensure machine tolerances are adhered to. • Actively participates in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives and programs.

• Performs high quality work at all times with attention to detail.
