MACARTHUR NEWS
The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
Thursday 11th February7.30pm at the Macarthur Senior Citizens rooms
Summer Fire Safety
A fire at Mt Eccles National Park in January was a timely reminder that even people with good intentions can start fires and put others in danger. Favourable weather conditions meant that the fire was able to be contained to a fairly small area of Park with approximately 1 hectare of private land also impacted. If there had been a northerly wind blowing the outcome may have been vastly different and the damage enormous.
Fortunately for the young man who started the fire, the law does not allow him to be fined for stupidity and hopefully he has learnt a valuable lesson.
The fire danger period has a long way to go and it is important that each one of us are aware of the Fire Danger Ratings on a daily basis and never, ever light fires in the open on a Total Fire Ban day. It is also vital that each one of us has a Fire Emer-gency Plan, even those of us living in Macarthur need to be prepared for the worst.

Music in the Vines
Last year a committee was formed to stage an annual music event in Macarthur. After much hard work the big day is almost here and on Saturday, March 5th the first Music in the Vines event will take place at Suffoir Winery on Mt Eccles Road. The headline act this year is Troy Cassar-Daley, winner of 5 awards at the recent Country Music Festival held in Tamworth. Troy will be support-ed by a quality line-up of musicians in a day long musical feast. Tickets can be purchased online and at selected businesses in Macarthur.
You can help make this event a success in a variety of ways. Tell your friends and families and get a group together to attend, offer your services, volunteers will be event. Consider making a donation to help cover costs. Are you looking for a gift for someone special in your life? Why not give them a concert ticket?
An annual event of this calibre could put Macarthur on the map and support from the community is essential to its’ success. Finally, if you attend and enjoy the concert, consider becoming a part of the organizing committee to for the next one.
This is a community event to benefit the community!
OPEN HOUSE.
50 years ago, on February 21st 1966, Ray (Buddy) Williams, from Numurkah, commenced his working career in Macarthur at the National Bank.
While here in Macarthur he made some good friends, so on Sunday, February 21st, 2016 he will be at Bill and Lesley Addinsall’s home, 20 High Street, from 2.00pm onwards hoping to catch up and renew some of those connections.
An open invitation is extended to anyone who would like to take the opportunity to catch up with Ray again. (He now lives in Tasmania running a very successful business, but come and hear his story yourself.)

LIONS NEWS
Members have recently catered for Jack and Glenys Sharrock’s 50th Wedding anniversary and again hosted the annual Australia Day celebration here in Macarthur.
Upcoming activities include catering for 2 days at the annual Campdraft event later in February, helping at the Port Fairy Folk Festival in the Shebeen Bar and BBQ’ing at the Macarthur Community Auction in March.
We are also looking forward to hosting the annual Challenge Cancer Children’s visit early April. This year activities will take place at the Duyvestyn farm, where the children will be entertained with vintage car rides and carriage rides as well as being able to interact with various animals. It is always good to be able to provide these children with activities enabling them some respite from ongoing hospital treatment.
Our local club meets twice monthly, alternat-ing business and dinner meetings. Any enquiries can be directed to President, John Holcombe, by phoning 55787215 or 0438787215. New members are always welcome.
