MACARTHUR NEWS
The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
Tuesday 6th December 7.30pm at the Macarthur Senior Citizens rooms
A Reflection
As we approach the end of another year, perhaps it is time to reflect on the past year and give thanks for
what we have. In small towns around the country we tend to be insulated from many of the problems that
our city cousins are confronted with every day. The violence that accompanies drug taking, especially the
scourge of “ice”, the gangs of young people terrorising parts of Melbourne, home invasions, car theft and
the fear of a terrorist attack, these events happen to other people, not us. Lack of public transport, distance
from supermarkets and other shops, expensive petrol, having to travel to Geelong or Ballarat to see medi-
cal specialists, roads falling apart, all of these become minor annoyances when we consider the difficulties
and inconveniences of city living.
How fortunate are we to be part of a small community, a town where people care about their neigh-
bours? A town where everyone rallies around to help when someone is in need, a town that is proud of its’
past, where heritage is preserved and our older members cherished.
This past year some people have moved away and new people have moved in, some of our young peo-
ple will be finishing their time at the Primary School and others will be moving away to begin the next
stage of their education at Universities and other tertiary institutions. There will be a period when the
Kinder has insufficient numbers to run a 4-year-old programme. Some of us have retired and others have
just entered the work force.
All of these things are part of a continuous cycle, year after year, decade after decade and the communi-
ty adjusts to the changes and continues to evolve. The next decade could bring many changes and opportu-
nities to Macarthur and we may be challenged by some of the changes. What is important is that we hold
on to the things that make Macarthur a great place to live, that we continue to care, that we are involved in
community groups, that we make people feel welcome and part of the community. To those of you who
have just moved to our community we say Welcome! We hope you will join a community group or club
or just come to some of the events that are held during the year so we can get to know you.
Merry Christmas Everyone!

GET INVOLVED IN YOUR
MUSIC FESTIVAL!
BIG MACARTHUR WEEKEND
Macarthur’s Music in the Vines Committee is busy prepar-
ing all the behind the scenes work to ensure the smooth run-
ning of the second music festival on 4th March 2017.
It is pleasing to see enthusiasm from local groups becoming
involved in next year’s event. The Macarthur Primary
School will once again be running the BBQ and the
Macarthur Golf Club will supply the buggies to provide
transport from the carpark for those who need it. The
Macarthur Men’s Shed will be selling hot roast rolls, adding
to an expanding range of food options on the day. New
additions to the Festival also include quality craft stalls, and an Emerging Talent competition which has
already gained interest on the Music in the Vines Facebook page.
Get the word out, and let your friends know about this event. Saturday 4th March. Gates open at 10am and
close at 11pm. We live in a beautiful town, so let’s promote it!
We are still looking for more sponsors, so please give this some consideration, as it is essential for the
running of such an event and would be very much appreciated.
A GREAT Big thankyou to our sponsors so far: Parfrey Plumbing, Moyne Shire, Suffoir Vineyard,
ACE Radio, Star Printing, Macarthur Pub, JHP Security, Macarthur Park Country Cottages, RB Sellars,
Dan Tehan MP, Kerr & Co, Macarthur Rural Supplies, Hammonds Paints, Melville Orton & Lewis,
Charles Stewart, Dale Cleves Music.
And lastly, don’t forget to get your tickets early online at www.musicinthevines.com.au or at the Macarthur pub or Mooney’s Café. Prices for Dec-Jan are $50 per ticket.
BIG MACARTHUR WEEKEND The weekend of the 3rd, 4th and 5th March has turned into the BIG MACARTHUR WEEKEND! There will be a number of events and openings on this weekend. Apart from the Music in the Vines, there will be the Macarthur Campdraft happening at the Rec Reserve all weekend. On Sunday, Wendy Black’s Art
Gallery will be open, along with the newly renovated Historical Society Court House and the Men’s Shed. The Hamilton and District Veteran Vintage and Classic Car club will also be visiting to show off their cars on the Sunday. Macarthur will be a hive of activity, so tell all your family and friends to come along and enjoy a fabulous Big Macarthur Weekend!

JUNIOR TENNIS COACHING
Saturday 19th November 2016 saw Broadwater Tennis Club, with 19 children from ages 5 to 13 running around with tennis rackets, under the guidance of a professional tennis coach. What a great sight this was!
Junior Tennis Coaching has commenced at Broadwater on Saturday mornings finishing the 10th Decem-ber. Warrnambool Indoor Tennis has supplied Toby Timms to come out and give lessons for four weeks. Thanks to Sarah Shearsmith for getting the ball rolling and making available this fantastic opportunity for children in our area to receive lessons.
Thankyou to all the parents for committing to this important program for tennis and the Broadwater Ten-nis Club. Because of the success of this clinic, it is proposed to run another clinic in February 2017.
All interested please contact Sarah Shearsmith on 0411707637 Leonie Dyson on 0438586762

Members are advised of our next general meeting to be held in the club rooms on Tuesday 13th November 2016 @ 8 pm
Indigestion - A Naturopathic perspective
Most of us have experienced some form of food indigestion in our lives. This is especially true dur-ing the festive seasons. Overeating on fatty food, meat and over consumption of alcohol, tea and, cof-fee tends to bring about this disorder. Overweight, frequent late night meals will tend to exacerbate the condition, which may lead to heart burn, stomach reflux and other stomach disorders. Any light dis-comfort in the stomach for more than 3 days you should always seek medical advice.
Cultivating a habit of more light meals through-out the day and cutting down consumption of alco-hol, tea and coffee while avoiding late night supper and spicy food will help to prevent indigestion dis-order. Consuming ginger drink, chamomile and pep-permint tea can help to soothe and reduce the dis-comfort.
Holistically, reducing the workload of the stom-ach by having frequent lighter meals, cutting down overindulgence on food and inculcating the habit of early retiring to bed will help to alleviate indiges-tion disorders.
