Mac vs. PC: Which Has Better Resell Value? Mac vs. PC is a debate that has been raging since Apple and Microsoft first became competitors,

and both sides have their devotees who unquestioningly advocate for one over the other. The

fanaticism involved makes it difficult to get straight answers about each line's advantages and

disadvantages, as each one's fans are likely to engage in hyperbole about both. For someone looking to sell their broken iPhone, get rid of a used iPad, or trade in another Mac

device, what can they expect? Are Macs the dominant machine – the choice of the true

connoisseur? Or is Apple a paper tiger held up by hipster cultists who will soon be unable to

keep their favorite brand afloat, leaving Mac owners with unsupported and unsellable machines? The answer is, of course, neither. Let's break down what the actual advantages and disadvantages

of both Macs and PCs are:

● Price point: One of the most common advantages that PC supporters like to point out is

that on average PCs cost less than Macs. While some high-end PCs can be pricey, it is

true that Macs are generally sold at a higher price point. It's incredibly rare to find a new

Mac desktop for less than $1,000, whereas new, basic PC desktops can be found for

much less. However, there are still several other factors to keep in mind. First, while

there are many cheaper models of PC, they are less likely to have many of the features

that come standard on a Mac, and installing those features costs additional money and

time. Second, Macs come with very well regarded customer support and warranties,

which many PCs, and especially their upgraded parts, will not have. ● Customer base: In terms of pure market share, PCs have the advantage. As of 2010,

Macs made up only 5 percent of computers worldwide.1 This is partially due to Macs

having a much more limited product line, whereas Microsoft licenses its Windows

operating system to many different manufacturers who then install it in hundreds, if not

thousands, of devices. That said, the Apple customer base is notoriously loyal and

fanatical, and many of them exclusively buy Mac products. ● Operating system: If you pay attention to tech news, then you know that people haven't

been very happy with the Windows operating systems of the last few years. Both Vista

and Windows 10 have gained a reputation for being slow and glitchy. By contrast, Mac

OS X has a reputation for being incredibly reliable, as well as having a much more

intuitive and easy to learn interface. ● Maintenance: While PCs are much more customizable than Macs, they also require

much more maintenance. PCs require users to download many more updates, purge their

computers of bloatware and other junk filling up their computers, as well as stay up to

date on security and anti-virus patches in a way that Mac users don't have to. ● Security: One of the best advantages offered by Macs is that they are much less

susceptible to viruses. While there are more infections that affect Apple products today

than there have been in the past, that number is still much less than the ones that target

PCs exclusively.

● Resell value: Because Macs' require less maintenance, are less likely to be infected with

viruses and malware, and are more uniform in their construction than the often highly

customized PCs, Macs tend to be much easier to resell. The normalization of features and

hardware across Apple's line makes them much easier to repair and much easier to sell,

because buyers know exactly what they are getting from even a used Mac. Thanks to their better resell value, Apple's higher price point for new machines becomes a

boon to anyone looking to trade in a MacBook or sell an iPad, because it means there is a

thriving market for used Apple machines. Mac owners looking to trade in their Apple

products are likely to fetch a decent price for their devices, as resellers know that the devices

are very likely to sell. Summary PCs and Macs both have advantages and disadvantages, but Mac's reliable OS, enhanced

security, and lower maintenance costs make them worth buying, despite their higher initial

costs, and make for a thriving resell market for Mac products. Company Bio TurnTronics is a trusted reseller of Mac products. The company offers its clients reliable and
