M5 PIFFS ELM OVERBRIDGE STRUCTURAL REPAIROVERVIEW
Piffs Elm is located on the M5 at junction 10. The works are to replace the existing foundation will be replaced by piled foundations placed between the existing spread footings. 6 no. 900mm diameter bored, cast in-situ concrete piles are to be installed on the centreline of each pier. The piles will be connected to each other and to the existing columns by a new 1500mm wide by 1500 deep continuous pile cap to each pier. Hydro-demolition of the columns below ground will leave existing columns reinforcement exposed, which will be cast into the new pile cap. The existing foundation will remain in the ground, but will be disconnected from the new foundations and will become redundant.
