M3 SMART OS Update manual

There are 4 different types of OS update methods available for M3 SMART.

1. One Click Update.

2. Partition Size change while OS Update.

3. SD Card Update.

4. USB Update.

Images.BIN Is the only file needed for above method.

Caution: Use AC Power while OS Updating process.

Do not select ‘7. All Format’, it’s manufacturer’s menu only.

1. One Click Update.

i) Copy Image.BIN file into SD card’s root folder of MicroSD, then insert the MicroSD card

to the device.

ie) Root folder: The root folder of any partition is the "highest" folder in the hierarchy.

The root folder contains all other folders and can also contain files.

For example, the root folder of the main partition on your computer is probably C:\. The

root folder of your DVD or CD drive might be D:\.

The term root may also be relative to whatever location you're talking about. For

example, the files contained in the folder (but not subdirectories of) C:\Users may be

referred to as the files in the root of C:\Users.

ii) Click on IMAGE.BIN file and you will be able to see following screen.

iii) Click on ‘OneClick Update’ and you will be able to see following message box.

iv) Click ‘Yes’ to continue OS update.

v) OS update will start automatically.

vi) Please follow instructions on the screen to complete OS update.

2. Partition Size change while OS Update.

i) By click on ‘Block Size Setting’ you can change flash disk memory size.

ii) You will be able to modify flash disk memory size at following screen.

iii) Simply enter amount of space wishes to be used for OS, and it will automatically

calculate out remaining space for Flash Disk usage as shown below.

iv) Click ‘Change’ to apply change, it will show below message box, click ‘Yes’, changed

setting will be applied, while updating OS.

3. SD card Update.

i) To update the OS, please use IMAGES.BIN file.

ii) Copy IMAGES.BIN to root folder of MicroSD then, insert MicroSD card to the device.

iii) Turn off the device by pressing the power button for approximately 10 seconds, then

while pressing the right arrow button, press power button to enter the boot menu.

iv) Press ‘1’ to enter SD update mode, then press ‘3’ to start update.

v) When OS update is completed, device will automatically reset.

4. OS Update via USB Downloader

NOTE: Driver installation only needs to be done for the first time.

Driver Installation

i) Download all necessary files to your PC.

① OS file.

② USB Update tool: M3SMART_USBDown.zip

③ USB Driver if necessary: M3SMART_Driver.zip

ii) Turn off the device by pressing the power button for approximately 10 seconds. Then, while pressing the right arrow button, press power button to enter boot menu.

1) SD Download

2) USB Download

3) Clean Boot

4) Factory Reset

5) Device ID(UUID)

6) D_Serial:GPS Mode

7) ALL Format

0) Exit:Launch OS

iii) From the boot menu, press ‘2’ to enter USB Download Mode. Then, press ‘1’ to prepare the PDA for USB OS update.

0) Power Off

When it displays USB Download Ready, connect the PDA to the

PC.

iv) Place M3 ORANGE on the cradle and connect to a PC via USB cable. ‘Found New Hardware’ message will be displayed on your PC and will automatically install required driver.

If the driver is installed properly, please go to step 11, otherwise proceed to step 5.

v) If the driver is not installed properly, the driver must be installed manually.

Please open Device Manager. (Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers >

Device Manager).

vi) Double click on SEC S5PC100X Test B/D to open the properties and click on Update Driver…

vii) Click on Browse my computer for driver software

viii) Then, select the folder where the driver files are located by click on Browse…

ix) When a warning window pops up, click on Install this driver software anyway.

Then, it will start installing driver software.

x) Close the window after the driver installation is successfully done.

xi) Launch USBDown.exe to start OS update.

xii) Select ‘All Image’ and click on Open to select Images.bin, OS file.

xiii) When the correct OS file is selected, click start to proceed.

xiv) When OS update is complete, PDA will display complete message on the screen. Then press

‘0’ to launch OS image.
