But, the reality ofcommercial, scalable, cross geographysolution deployments is somewhat differ-entandcommerciallydeployed,enterprisegradem2msolutionshaveuniquemanagedservices and connectivity needs and theypose challenges that differ from the con-sumermarket.

m2mAIR is based on both grassroots andhighlevelknowledgeofthechallengesfac-ingreallifem2mdeployments.Thisknowl-edgecomes from thedeepunderstandingofdevicesidemobileconnectivityandappli-cationdevelopmentthatexistsatTelitandthem2mAIRbusinessunitwithinTelitthatincludes mobile network and applicationdevelopmentexperts.m2mAIRhasabusi-nesspartnershipwithaleadingglobalcon-nectivityprovider,Telefónica,andanunder-lying service infrastructure (subscriptionlifecyclemanagement,BSS,VAS,technicalsupportandprofessionalservices) todealwith these challenges, allowing m2m ap-plication/solution providers to get all thatfromthem2mAIR“onestopshop”andfo-cusontheircorebusiness.

V1.1Page3/17

Thescopeofm2mapplication /solutionchallenges iswide,butthosethatarerelatedtom2mconnectivitycanbedividedintothefollowingbusiness,logisticandtechnicalchallenges:

1.

Procuring scalable cross-geography connectivity with minimumimpactontheapplication/solutionBillofMaterials(BOM)andareasonableimpactonthesolution’sTotalCostofOwnership(TCO)fortheapplication/solutionoperatororendcustomer.

Customerswith an actual or potentialnear term deployment ofseveralthousandsofunitsoftenexperiencelackofaccesstorea-sonablepricingformanagedservicesandconnectivitythatwillen-surethattheirapplications/solutionsarecompetitive.

2.

Procuring scalable cross-geographymanaged services and con-nectivity from theminimum number of providers as possible tostreamlinelogistics, operations, financehandling, etc.

m2mapplication/solutionprovidersoftenhavespecialoperationsand logisticsneeds,e.g. theyarerequired toaddress issues likescalable subscription lifecycle management. 3. Real time cost control

Thereisaclearneedtobeabletoverifythatthecostofconnec-tivityonunits isnotrunningrampantand therebyavoidunpre-dictablebillshocksthatmaycompromisethem2mapplication/solutionpricingandbusinessmodel.

Thefactisthatmostm2mapplications/solutionsareextremelycostconscioussincetheARPUofasinglesubscriptionistypicallyquite low comparedwith a regular “human” subscription.Thismakesm2msubscriptionssensitive todeviations insingleunitlevelnetworkconsumptionpatterns.Sometimes,asingle“highrunner”unitconsumingoveragenetworktrafficduetointention-almisuseorasoftwaredefectcancauseanunpredictable“billshock”thatcompromisestheprofitabilityofalargedeploymentformanymonths.
