Merit ScholarshipsSt. John’s University offers academic scholarships to first-year, full-time undergraduate students who enroll in a bachelor’s-level degree program for the Fall 2020 term. The admission application is used to automatically determine academic scholarship eligibility; no additional application is required.

• Students who do not meet the criteria outlined above are considered for academic and need-based scholarships.

• SAT/ACT Test Optional applicants who do not submit their standardized test scores are considered for a wide range of scholarships. Scholarship eligibility is based on a holistic review factoring in the high school grade point average (GPA), rigor of the academic course work, letters of recommendation, essay, and the student’s extracurricular activities.

• Please note that the Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island campuses have different tuition rates. Scholarships are awarded based on the student’s academic ability, program of study, and campus of record.

• The Pharm.D. program is a highly competitive program; scholarships range from $14,000 to $24,000 with a limited number of full tuition awards.

• St. John’s academic scholarships are highly competitive and are subject to applicant’s admission to the University and the final decision of the Admission committee.

Application ScholarshipsThe following opportunities are for domestic and international first-time

undergraduate students.

Ozanam Scholars ProgramThis program, named in honor of Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, provides a select group of scholars with a unique and innovative learning experience. The Ozanam Scholars Program connects small student groups with dedicated faculty to contribute to solving real-world social justice problems in local, national, and international communities. Ozanam Scholars receive up to a $10,000 scholarship renewable annually for the four-year program.

Catholic Scholars ProgramCatholic Scholars take part in a four-year developmental program that translates faith into action. Prospective first-year students apply for this scholarship and, if chosen, receive a grant of $5,000 per year, which is awarded for four years of study. Students commit themselves to faith-based leadership training, service, and prayer, and formation of a deeper understanding of what it means to be a leader inspired by the Catholic tradition.

Catholic Student ScholarshipSt. John’s is committed to preparing Catholic students for ethical leadership. Our Catholic Student Scholarship offers a limited number of awards (based on availability) to college-bound Catholic students regardless of the secondary school they attend; this includes non-Catholic high school institutions.

The Notre Dame College Alumnae Association Sister Helen Flynn Endowed ScholarshipThis scholarship was established for those students who choose to study at the Staten Island, NY campus of St. John’s University in an environment conducive to Sister Helen Flynn’s ideals of service, education, and faith. Applicants must be incoming first-year students accepted into an undergraduate program at the Staten Island campus who are close relatives (i.e., son, daughter, brother, sister, nephew, niece, grandson, granddaughter, or first cousin) of a Notre Dame alumna or alumnus of a four-year undergraduate program from the University’s Staten Island campus.

Special ScholarshipsThe following opportunities are for domestic and international

undergraduate students.

Catholic High School Scholarship Created in response to a recommendation from the Advisory Board of the University’s Institute for Catholic Schools, this scholarship provides an annual award of $2,500 to incoming first-year students who will be graduating from a Catholic high school and entering St. John’s in the fall of 2020.

Legacy AwardFirst-year students entering St. John’s in the fall of 2020 are automatically considered for this $2,000 per year award when they indicate on their admission application that their grandparents, parents, or siblings received a degree from St. John’s University prior to June 2020. Eligible students are limited to one legacy award.

College Advantage AwardStudents who participate in College Advantage and who enroll at St. John’s University the semester after high school graduation receive a $2,000 tuition grant per year.

Service Awards*

The following opportunities are for domestic undergraduate students.

Child of a Police Officer Service AwardSt. John’s University awards $2,000 per year for up to four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate enrollment to new students who are the children of police officers within the US. An eligible student must be a dependent child of a police officer (full-time active service, retired, or killed in the line of duty) and a current high school senior planning to enroll at St. John’s in the Fall 2020 term.

Child of a Firefighter Service Award

St. John’s University awards $2,000 per year for up to four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate enrollment to new students who are the children of firefighters within the US. An eligible student must be a dependent child of a fire department member (full-time active service, retired, or killed in the line of duty) and a current high school senior planning to enroll at St. John’s in the Fall 2020 term.

Child of Military Service Members AwardSt. John’s University awards $2,000 per year for up to four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate enrollment to new students who are the children of United States Military service members. An eligible student must be a dependent child of a US Military service member (full-time active service, veteran, or killed in the line of duty) and a current high school senior planning to enroll at St. John’s in the Fall 2020 term.

*St. John’s University created the service awards to honor the brave men and women of the US Armed Forces, a United States Police Department, or a United States Fire Department who dedicate their lives to the service of others. Please note that students are limited to one service award, and the University reserves the right to request proof of eligibility. To be considered for service awards, the admission application must be submitted on or before January 15, 2020.

Undergraduate fi rst-year student scholarships may be renewed for up to four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate study at St. John’s University, provided the student maintains the academic requirements of the scholarship outlined in the Undergraduate Bulletin. Scholarships are not applicable to intersession, winter session, postsession, or summer sessions.

All applicants may be considered for a range of other merit- and need-based grants. Financial need is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All eligible students are encouraged to fi le the FAFSA when it becomes available on October 1.

The University reserves the right to adjust any University grant or scholarship due to receipt of non-University aid. In addition, the combination of external grants and scholarships (funded by state, federal, and/or private sources), along with fi nancial assistance from St. John’s, may not exceed the cost of full tuition. The scholarship programs are subject to the policies and practices of the University’s Offi ce of Student Financial Services and various regulatory agencies.
