Current Events:
National Anthem
In the past months many football players have been kneeling for the national anthem instead of standing. They are making this stand with Kaepernick for police violence. President Donald Trump has started some more controversy over this, since President Trump has commented on this even more people have been kneeling. During the Steelers and Bears game, the only player to come out of the locker room was Villanueva from the Steelers. He was a former Army member. He came out to stand to honor people in war. Although he agrees with
Kaepernick, he knows it's worth it to stand during the national anthem. Do you think they should be standing?
North Korea North Korea has been a big star in the news. They are big talk, but will they actually strike the United States? President Trump is concerned that our nation is in danger. North Korea has been launching test missiles over Japan. This is causing Japan to worry, should they be worried? It is still not confirmed that they will be nuking the United States. Is the U.S. ready if they launch nuclear weapons?
Babies and New Teachers BABY ALERT: Who knew there could be so many babies in one school? Mrs. Morris, Mr. Morris, Mrs. Rexing, and Mr. Botts are all joining the parenting club. While Brooke (our friendly lunch server) an experienced parent, is welcoming one more into her family. These teachers have a full schedule ahead of them! There will be many more little hands and feet in Cozad real soon. With all the babies and their moms being gone who will be the subs? Will it be Mr. Hansen, Mrs. Hansen, Mrs. Brownfield, or Mr. Fink? We will have to wait to find out!
NEW TEACHERS:
There are two new teachers in the middle school this year. Mrs. Morris is the new 6th grade and 8th grade English teacher. Miss Boshart is the new 7th and 8th grade Science teacher. We asked them a few questions: Do you like the town of Cozad so far? What was it like moving to Cozad? Did you play sports when you were in high school? If so, which ones? Where did you go to college? Where were you originally from? What brought you to this small town?
These were Mrs. Morris’s answers:
1. I really do like Cozad so far. I grew up in a small town, so it really feels like home to me. 2. Moving to Cozad wasn't too difficult. I was living in North Platte before so when I got married to Mr. Morris it was a short move. It's nice knowing I still have family close in North Platte that I can visit. If I didn't, I think the move would've been harder for me. 3. I loved sports in high school! I played volleyball, basketball, and track. My absolute favorite sport was basketball, though. 4. I attended Wayne State College. 5. I'm originally from David City, Nebraska. However, in between my 7th and 8th grade year my dad got a new job so we moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska. Nebraska City was much more friendly to me, so that is what I consider my hometown. 6. My husband brought me to this small town! But it was an easy decision to decide where to live when we got married. While I don't mind bigger cities (like North Platte and Kearney), I really prefer the small towns. Plus, it helps that I got a job here at the middle school.
These were Miss Boshart’s answers:
1. I LOVE the town of Cozad! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. They are willing to help out in any way possible. And the teachers at Cozad are amazing!! I am so grateful for how they have helped me settle into this new position. 2. I was excited to move to Cozad and start making a name for myself. I also was a little nervous because I didn't know very many people when I moved here. However, I am glad I am here! 3. I did play sports in high school. I played volleyball, basketball, and ran track, and in the summer I played softball. 4. I went to Hastings College, where I majored in education and played basketball for a year and a half. 5. I am originally from Wood River, Nebraska. That is a small town between Grand Island and Kearney 6. I went to college with Stephanie Finnegan, she is from Cozad and is a very good friend of mine. She and her family mentioned that there was a science position open, so I applied and got the job. Plus, I was looking for a school/town the size of Cozad to teach at. It was a perfect fit!

Fashion There are a lot of different types of fashion. This is what we found out about some of the Cozad Middle School students. Here are some of the questions we asked the students. What do you think people should wear on a normal school day? Do you think Cozad Schools should have to wear school uniforms? What is your favorite brand to wear? What is your favorite fashion store? Do you prefer your hair up or down (girls)? Do you prefer short or long hair (boys)? All of the girl students that we interviewed except one likes to dress comfortable, the boys were the same way. More than half of the students thought that school uniforms would be good because then everyone dresses the same and won’t have to stress about what you wear. Most of the students that we interviewed liked different brands. They liked Under Armour, Nike, and Adidas. Students also said their favorite stores are Rue21, Scheels, and Buckle. All of the boys that we interviewed preferred long hair over short. The girls liked their hair both up and down. They like it up because it’s out of their face and liked it down because it looks better.
Activities Have you ever wondered what some of the activities are? Well if you have, this is a section for you. We have gone to some of the teachers and asked them about their activities classes. Mrs. Messersmith & Miss Boshart -- Spirit Club In Spirit Club, they have 19 students all together. They are all girls. In Spirit Club, they make all the locker tags for sports and they also do a dance performance with the high school dance team. Mrs. Messersmith likes Spirit Club because it gets everyone involved in supporting the school! Mr. Frauen -- Frisbee Golf There are a total of 18 students, which are all boys. They play frisbee golf and football. During this class period, they talk about rules and how to throw. They also watch videos on the professional frisbee golf tour. The class goes to the park by the pool and play at the frisbee golf course. Frisbee golf and frisbee football is not dangerous. The pros include exercise and being outdoors. According to Mr. Frauen, there are no cons. Mrs. Wichelt & Mrs. Lucas -- Games and Cards There are 19 students currently in Games and Cards, which is a mix of boys and girls. During this class period, the students play games, cards, and minute to win it games. Some pros of doing this activity class would include being able to kick back and have fun at the end of the day. Some cons would be to follow rules in games and not always being with friends. Mrs. Wichelt says that her favorite part of the class is watching kids have fun and getting to play with the students.
