St. Joseph’s Institute of Management belongs to the world-wide network of Jesuiteducationalinstitutionsunderthebanner,SocietyofJesus.InBangalore,St.Joseph’sisabrandnameforgoodeducationsince1858.InthatyeartheFrenchForeignMissionarySocietyfoundedtheSt.Joseph’sEuropeanHighSchoolfortheeducationofAngloIndianboysandstudentsofforeignorigin.In1882,theSt.Joseph’sCollegefounditsbirthandsubsequentlySt.Joseph’sIndianHighSchool.FromthenonthegrowthofJoseph’swasonanevenkeel.

Interestingly,theJesuitFatherscameintothepictureonlyin1937.Inthatyear,theFrenchFathershandedovertheSt.Joseph’sCollegeandSchoolstotheSocietyofJesus,whicheventuallytooktheregisterednameofBangaloreJesuitEducationalSociety.

Ascanbeseen,therefore,St.Joseph’sisablendoftwomissionarycultures-theFrenchFathers known for their gentle handling and undying loyalty and the Jesuit Fathers,renownedfordisciplineandscholarship.Henceitisnotsurprisingtoseeawarmemorialas one enters St. Joseph’sEuropeanHighSchool (nowSt. Joseph’sBoysHighSchool)doinghonourtothestudentheroesoftheSchoolwhodiedintheFirstWorldWar.Theplaquereads:“Itisjustandhonourabletolaydownone’slifeforone’scountry”.

The Jesuitswere slow to come intoManagement education for a long time since theyfeltthatthedisciplinewasintheserviceofMammon.Butwhentheyrealisedthatitwasin thatdubiousarea that their servicesweremostneeded, theycame inunreservedly.Today,JesuitInstitutessuchasXLRI,XIMB,LIBAandothersareknownbothforgoodeducationandhumanity.

SJIMchampionsqualityeducationwithastrongvaluebaseandsocialbias.Coursesareofferedatmoderateratestogiveweakerstudentswithability,anopportunitytostudy.Thecollegealsoensuresthatnodeservingstudenthastogoawaymerelyongroundsofpaucityoffunds.
