Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.

SCRIPTURE READING LUKE 2: 1-7 Miller DavolIn those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

HYMN Away In a Manger Away in a manger, no crib for His bed, the little Lord

Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where He lay, the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look

down from the sky, And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

SCRIPTURE READING Luke 2: 8-14 Sonali Rye

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”

HYMN Angels We Have Heard on High Angels we have heard on high Sweetly singing o’er the plains,

And the mountains in reply Echo back their joyous strains. Glo-ori-a

in excelsis De-o, Glori-a in ex-cel-sis De-o.

Shepherds, why this Jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? Say what may the tidings be, Which inspire your heavenly

song. Glo-ori-a

in excelsis De-o, Glori-a in ex-cel-sis De-o.

Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee, Christ, the Lord, the newborn

King. Glo-ori-a in excelsis De-o, Glori-a in ex-cel-sis De-o.

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherdssaid to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see thisthing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” Sothey went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lyingin the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had beentold them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at whatthe shepherds told them. But Mary treasured all these words andpondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying andpraising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

HYMN The First Nowell The First Nowell, the Angel did say, Was to

certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, On a cold winter’s

night that was so deep. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a star Shining

in the East, beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it con-

tinued both day and night. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel!

And by the light of that same star Three Wise men came from country far; To seek for a

king was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went.

Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel!

This star drew nigh to the northwest, O’er Bethlehem it took its rest, And there it Did both stop and stay, Right over the

place where Jesus lay. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel!

Then entered in those wise men three, Full Reverently upon their knee, And offered There, in his presence, Their gold and

Myrrh and frankincense. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King

of Israel!

POEM I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day Robert Drysdale

I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along th’unbroken song

Page 12: M Web viewGeorge Mazzoli, John Mazzoli, Charlie McKean, Jack McKean. WORDS OF WELCOME. INTROIT. See Amid the Winter’s Snow Goss. CALL TO WORSHIP. Ginger Jewett. ... where God is

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head: ‘There is no peace on earth, ‘ I said ‘For hate is strong, and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men.’

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: ‘God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth, good will to men.’

Till, ringing, singing on its way, The world revolved from night to day A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, Of peace on earth, good will to men.

--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

*HYMN Joy to the World, the Lord is Come Joy to the world, the Lord is come!

Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven and nature

sing, And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns: Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains

Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the
