MARINE BIOLOGIST Heather Kroschinsky
WHAT A TYPICAL DAY LOOKS LIKE It all depends on what you do because there are
different types of Marine Biologist. Some study Whales, Dolphins, and Plankton and all
those kinds of animals Other Marine Biologist explore Marine life and they
take examples and they study all the Marine life Some work at the aquarium and they feed the animals
or they help the animals that are sick and they study what’s wrong with Marine life
Some other Marine Biologist study the plants in the oceans and look at what they need.
The last Marine Biologists are the ones that go around to Universities and they talk to kids that want to be a Marine Biologist and what they have to do and everything about it, and they also study the Marine life and clean the tanks and feed all the Marine life.
WHY AM I INTERESTED? I am interested in this
job because I love finding and exploring new and different things
I love studying all kinds of different things and finding new ways to help out with that type of study
I think it would be such a cool way to explore new things and be in such a different atmosphere everyday
When I went to Boston I went to an Aquarium and saw all the Marine life and saw all the people working there and it looked really cool and it seemed really fun and that’s when I got most interested
They also make a lot of money and it is a really good job and I also love Sciences so that’s why I am interested
EDUCATION PATHWAY
To be a Marine Biologist you have to go to school at UBC-O for four years to become a Marine Biologist
$4,400 to $8,400 for the year for Canadian citizens and permanent residents
That’s just for UBCO and that price is just for the first year and to be a Marine Biologist you have to go to school for four years and then you may have to go for longer to become a different type of Marine Biologist
SALARY/FUTURE OUTLOOK
Marine Biologist make a lot more money then people assume
You don’t have to pay any expenses going to places and going to hotels and not having to pay
Marine Biologists earn 45K to 110K a year depends on what they do and what type of Marine Biologist they are
Marine Biologist will be here 10 years from now
Researching on Marine Life will always be needed to research different Marine life and what animals will become instinct 10 years from now
And the samples and research will always be needed for Marine Life so my job will always be there
WORKING CONDITIONS Marine Biologist work all year round they have to
monitor Marine Life at all times to see what happens all year around with Marine life
Depends what kind of Marine Biologist you are but you could be working in a Aquarium, boat, at sea, in the lab, at universities, and taking to people at the aquariums it all depends on what Marine Biologist you become
You don’t have set hours during a day, it when you get the work done and everything in the lab is complete that’s when you can come home
You get many great opportunities when it comes to being a Marine Biologist that works in the Oceans you get to see all different Marine Life and you get to explore different depths of the ocean and you get to travel everywhere as well
RELATED OCCUPATIONS I would be a
Biologist because it is very similar to being a Marine Biologist and it works with sort of the same things and some of the classes are the same as they would be for a Marine Biologist
I would be a Science teacher so I could teach other kids about being a Marine Biologist that way I am still doing what I love to do just teaching other people about it so they can choose to do that career
