NO HOLDS BARRED

While our law-making orators were lung-powering their mite to churn out a potionthat would defang the ANNAcondas (whoare our new honoured guests but moredeadly than the slithery ones in the zoos),the latter goaded the shouters’ spleen inthe absence of the hero of the event whowas defying nature and hunger, a licencefreely granted by our republic of unlaws.

The two parliamentarians who stood outof the motley crowd in the Lok Sabha werethe handsome Sashi Tharoor, the best En-glish speaker in Parliament, and PranabMukherjee who bore the brunt of the vacu-ous attack. The good old man has weath-ered worse storms created by worse peopleand he stood like the Valluvar statue offKanyakumari in the Indian Ocean andupped Anna Hazare’s body temperatureby a few degrees Fahrenheit so that hecould, without hurting his pride, put hissurrender to the frailty of man who is buta body plus ....

There is time yet, before the RepublicDay, to contrive a come back so that thevacancy created by Godse in 1948 could befilled by another Mahatma. We have notbeen told yet what Mahatma 2 has to offerus, but it is presumed that he would preachwhat he practises, namely wearing thewhitest clothes. Tinopal Company wouldtake over India that is Bharat. None shallenter the legislatures, including of coursethe Parliament, wearing any fancy clothesbut only garments made in white khadhi. The new Gandhi will not be derisively calledby any Emperor “the half naked Fakir” asMohan Chand Karam Chand Gandhi wascalled.

So let us wind up the fun in Parliamentwith the resolution that there shall be asuccession of Gandhis as the ‘Father ofthe Nation’ who has to pass the MohanChand Test.
