Lympstone Parish Council Item 5

A new litter bin at Bus Stop at Meeting Lane

Background

As part of improvements to the bus shelter area in Meeting Lane, Cllr Mrs Rogers has requested the

Council to consider providing a new litter bin.

The Council has provided two similar bins and these are emptied by EDDC at a cost of £70.00 each

pa.

Proposals

The other litter bins in the village are Glasdon ‘Topsy’ bins and are black. These are a good size

and sturdily built. There is room for this to be fixed on the concrete plinth in front, but to one side

of the Shelter.

There is no budget provision for this but the cost can be met from reserves.

Price including delivery, £246.89 excluding VAT: Fixing kit: £12.73, S/S cigarette stubber: £7.02

RECOMMENDATION The Council is requested to consider the purchase of this bin and a contractor to fix it into place.

If the Council decides to go ahead, the Council is also recommended to add this to the bin emptying

contract with EDDC.

LYMPSTONE PARISH COUNCIL Item 6

Refurbishment of notice boards

Background

The Parish Council owns 6 notice boards. These were made by Cllr Acca about 12 years ago. They

are made of brown, wood grain type, uPVC frames and doors and glazed in glass or polycarbonate.

The latter has been used where there has been vandalism in the past.

Photos of the notice boards can be displayed at the meeting if required.

The units are wall mounted at:

Longmeadow Road, Church Road, the Station Arch. They are mounted on two timber posts at Exe

View Road, Sowden Lane and Trafalgar Road.

Proposals

All notice boards would benefit from a clean inside and out.

The timber posts for three of the notice boards would benefit from staining with a wood

preservative. There is some in stock.

The notice board at Exe View Road does not have ‘Lympstone Parish Council’ on it. This should

be rectified. This notice board would benefit from having growth removed from around the notice

board. This could be extended to the grit bin, finger post and the seat. This could be added to the

grounds contract for more regular attention. At the moment, the tender only requires strimming.

The notice board Sowden Lane would benefit from having the rose cut back. The owners could be

approached for this.

Costs

Miller signs have been approached to add lettering to the notice board at Exe

View Road.

(Say £50)

Staining posts, say 2 hours

£30

Michelles Cleaning have been approached to quote for Cleaning, say 2 hours

£30

Gardencare have been approached to quote for cutting growth back at Exe View

Road, say

£40

Estimated total £150

Recommendation:

1 That the works be put in hand.

2 That the owner of Sowden House be requested to cut back the rose and keep it cut back from the

notice board.

Cleaning the toilets

The Clerk has discussed pressure washing with Michelles Cleaning but no further response has been

received. The cost of a one-off clean would be in the region of £60.00

As an alternative, the Clerk suggests buying a Steam Mop and cleaning heads instead. Mrs

Edworthy is familiar with these and would be happy to use this equipment. If the Parish Council

owned the equipment, a regular steam clean could be given to ensure that the floors remained in

good condition. The equipment below includes a hand held steamer which can be used on walls

and ceramics and is taken from the Amazon website.

I would also recommend increasing the Cleaner’s hours by say, 3 per month to allow a full steam

clean regularly.
