“The X Factor was a great opportunity to learn skillsfrom someone who’d had years of experience in YouthWork. It was really helpful to bounce ideas around andget a realistic idea as to what would/wouldn’t work. Itwas also a time of blessing and encouragement, know-ing we had the backup of someone so knowledgeablein that particular field of work.”

Welcome to Lincolnshire Youth Mission (LYM), a registered charity and
limited company by guarantee.
Founded in 2006, we respond to the spiritual, social and developing needs
of young people within our local community. Our success is as a result of
a dedicated team of Directors, Staff and Volunteers with a wide range of
skills and experience representing denominations from across the County.
This makes us one of the leading ecumenical partnerships responding to
the needs of young people in Lincolnshire.
Thanks to the encouragement and support given by the former Bishop of
Lincoln, the Chairman of the Lincoln and Grimsby District, of the Methodist
Church and Churches Together in all Lincolnshire, we have been a means
of coordinating and securing significant funding towards the cost of youth
work within areas such as Lincoln, Boston and surrounding villages. Our
most sincere thanks also go to those who recognise the invaluable work
we do and continue to give so generously. At a time when the funding for
youth work within the County is either being withdrawn or reduced, the
support of churches and local business is essential to our continued and
committed success.
But we are not just stopping at what we do. Together, we are committed
to develop further opportunities and keen to hear of any ideas that you
have in order to respond to the needs of young people within your local
community. Should you want to know more about LYM and how you can
help us make a real difference to the lives of young people, please do not
hesitate to contact us. In the meantime, I hope that you find this leaflet
informative and provides you with a brief insight into our work.
Kind Regards,
Nick Chambers
Chair/Director.
In 2007 LYM’s first project was set up, the X-Factor Youth Project.
By employing a youth missioner, LYM was able to support a
number of churches in the south of Lincoln in developing and
providing youth work.
LYM has been acting as consultants for churches of different
denominations in helping them develop new projects and
have been a resource over the last few years to those
denominations who would like to develop further projects.
' The Roadhog project was set up by a group of like-mindedchurches around Boston with the aim of providing educationand Christian support to young people in the area who hadlittle access to young clubs or Christian groups. After gettingthe funding required they were able to buy a double-deckerbus and have it converted into a youth venue. Young peoplecontributed their ideas about what they wanted on the bus andchose the colour of the bus itself-purple.
The Roadhog bus started on the road February 2010. There is a trained full-time workeremployed by LYM, Tony Coe, supported by volunteers from local churches. The bus attendssome local schools during the day and also visits different communities on a fortnightly rotaat night.

Do you have a vision of a project that you would like to discuss further? Is your churchlooking to develop youth work but doesn’t know where to start? LYM would be morethan happy to meet and discuss with you your ideas and how they can move forward.

Our method of working is to form a partnership
with a small group of churches in a local area to form
a youth project. One or more paid Youth Missioners are
assigned to each project, and the partner churches
provide volunteers to work alongside our missioner. The
local churches agree with the missioner, through a Steer-
ing Group for the project, what work he or she will
undertake. At least one of the directors of LYM will be a part of the
steering group for that project. Partner churches contrib-
ute directly to the cost of employing the youth
missioner(s) who will work with that project. We also
seek grant aid to cover the employment and operating
costs of the company.
