In New Zealand the LX470 took off-road performance into

a new dimension. It harmonised all the virtues of the LX450

with a more powerful V8 engine, and featured suspension

which suited New Zealand’s unique landscape.

A portfolio of groundbreaking technologies ensured that it was

equipped to traverse even the most inhospitable of terrain.

And our quest to constantly pursue perfection meant that

every journey delivered the uncompromising comfort and

unmistakeable luxury that can only be achieved by the

unwavering commitment to our own unique design

language, L finesse.

Morphing from the inspiring LX470, emerged the LX570.

Focusing on the power and performance for both on-road and

off-road driving as well as functionality and technology, such as

Crawl Control and Hill-start Assist Control, the LX570 has yet

again outperformed its predecessor. Painstakingly researched,

ruthlessly tested and meticulously crafted, the LX570 is a clear

signal that we are heading in the right direction. And so are you.

The evolution of all-terrain luxury.

Choosing a 4WD used to be just that – a choice.

Drivers had to weigh up the pros against the cons.

And they knew that they had to be willing to sacrifice

a little style, comfort, handling and agility in order

to have a vehicle that could tackle the road less

travelled. Thankfully, such compromise has been

left firmly in the past.

Lexus launched the LX450 in the USA in 1996.

After just two months in the market, it became

America’s best-selling Luxury Utility Vehicle.

Adorned with leather and woodgrain-accented

interior, automatic climate control and a refined

ride, it quite literally took luxury to places it had

never been before.

Suddenly, drivers realised that they could have it

all. In fact, they learned that they shouldn’t settle

for anything less than a vehicle that can take them

almost anywhere without sacrificing any of the

technological advancement, high performance

drive experience and outright opulence they very

quickly became accustomed to.

Driving luxury to new places.

Sitting on 20’’ alloy wheels, the LX570’s muscular curves

appear sporty, and give the first hint of the explosive power

that lies beneath the bonnet. Our dedicated engineers have

developed an unadulterated 5.7L V8 engine. Delivering

530Nm of torque at 3,200rpm, this engine has the flexibility

you need off-road. While such output is impressive enough, it’s

where that torque is delivered that is of greatest significance

to a 4WD. Such innovations also contribute to meeting Euro IV

emissions standards. So all the while you’re enjoying the great

outdoors, you’re caring for it too.

Lexus designers didn’t take their cues from other prestige

vehicles, they looked instead to opulent homes. And it was in

these fine houses that they found their inspiration - creating

a harmonious blend of technological advancement and effortless

flexibility that simply feels like comfort the moment you step

inside. We call this natural fusion of form and function, L finesse.

The L finesse experience begins as you approach your vehicle,

you are greeted with ‘welcome lighting’, illuminating the foot

area near the doors when you approach with the Smart Key

or Smart Key Card.

The LX570 reveals itself in the way you and all your

passengers feel cocooned in comfort as soon as you sit down

– in the intricately shaped, leather-accented seats of the first

row which can be warmed in winter and cooled in summer,

whilst the second row outer seats can be warmed.

And for the driver and front passenger, L finesse makes getting

perfectly comfortable perfectly simple. Power-operated

seat adjustment with memory function (driver seat) instantly

recalls your seat, side view mirror and steering column

positions after someone else has been driving.

The LX’s speedometer and tachometer offer advanced electro-luminescent

white illumination along with four unique analogue gauges.

At your fingertips are controls for the audio system volume, Multi Information Display and

cruise control. You can even answer your phone via Bluetooth™ at the touch of a button.

To maximise the driving experience, not only are your seats heated, they are equipped with

an adjustable length seat base allowing you to be at your most comfortable. Your driver’s

seat is also programmed to instantly remember three driver positional settings, for pure

comfort every time you get behind the wheel. And of course, there’s the clean and

elegant Optitron display – featuring classic analogue instrumentation highlighted by

a graduated blue display that creates a serene ambience in the cabin.

Ultimate comfort often comes down to the little things. And that’s

why in designing the LX570, we gave storage careful consideration.

You’ll find room for every little thing, with compartments thought-

fully placed throughout the cabin, and cup holders with clever push-

button lids. The second row of seating in the LX570 is fitted with the

ease of ‘power slide’, enabling you to adjust the seating forward or

backwards for extra leg room, or extra boot space. Larger items are

also easily accommodated, thanks to third row seats that fully fold

away at the touch of a button.

Hands-on control… and even more in store.

In the LX570, every journey can be an adventure. Or a comedy.

Or a sci-fi. But never a drama. Back seat passengers can instantly

be treated to a cinema-like movie experience showcasing your

favourite DVDs with individual LCD screens on the back of the front

passengers’ seats. The Mark Levinson audio system is a virtual home

theatre, any time you’re away from home. In order to manage

entertainment preferences, two wireless headphones for the

second row passengers are standard.

The back seat is now the box seat.To further add to the convenience of the LX570,

a power back door was adopted to make loading

and unloading more user-friendly. The back door

(upper tailgate) can be automatically opened

and closed using either the remote key or the

switch on the inside of the vehicle. If an obstruc-

tion occurs, the automatic power door reverses

its direction to prevent any damage or injuries.

It’s almost impossible to believe there was a time when 4WDs were shaped like square boxes

- built almost exclusively for function, and with little consideration given to styling and design.

Lexus designers have set new benchmarks in 4WD design by following a design language known

as ‘L finesse’, which encapsulates two thoughts: ‘leading edge’ and ‘finesse’. Flowing curves and

muscular elegance take the place of the rigid lines of tradition. Offering on-road presence and

a commandingly robust appearance, this sleek body is certainly appealing. But as with all Lexus

models, aesthetics are only a part of the equation. These precise lines also contribute to fuel

efficiency and reduce wind noise. And the sleek grille, while adding to the LX570’s presence,

features a wide opening to allow high cooling efficiency under any conditions.

Elegance, transformed.

The carefully considered wheel position and a reassuringly thick shape give the LX570

an air of distinction, while chrome-plated door handles add to the feeling of luxury.

The level of intelligent thinking devoted to this vehicle is even reflected in the mirrors.

Fitted with heaters to improve defogging, they’re interlocked with the reverse gear, so

they automatically tilt downwards when you’re going backwards. Then there are the

windows, which have been created with such laser-focus that they help reduce noise.

Every inch, an inspiration.

Safety firsts. There’s one single aspect of automotive excellence that concerns each of our designers, engineers and

technicians more than any other – your safety. Lexus has made a far reaching commitment to safety

through its Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA), a worldwide initiative pursuing standards that

in all cases surpass current safety protocol. Lexus reviews the world’s current and anticipated safety

standards and ensures all new vehicles are designed to exceed them.

Pre-Crash safety System.

When you are driving the LX570, the intelligent radar

Pre-Crash safety System (PCS) can actually predict an

impending emergency and take pre-emptive action to help

reduce collision impact and reduce the risk of injury.

Should the radar sensor in the front grille detect an object in

your path, a message is instantly relayed to the radar PCS.

If it perceives that there is a high risk of collision, first an alarm

sounds and a visual warning appears on the Multi- Information

Display alerting you of the situation. Brake assist is then placed

into stand-by mode in anticipation of the brakes being applied

for maximum force. If the brakes are not applied and the

Pre-Crash safety System (PCS) detects the incident is

unavoidable, the Pre-Crash Seatbelts retract the front seatbelts

and Pre-Crash Braking (PCB) applies the brakes for you,

to reduce speed and minimise collision impact and the

risk of injury. All within a matter of milliseconds.

Active Cruise Control.

Radar Active Cruise Control (ACC) consistently monitors

and controls the throttle and braking of your vehicle (using the

technology of the Pre-Crash safety System), which reduces your

speed to that of the vehicle pulling in front of you during Active

Cruise Control, and restores your original speed setting when

the obstructing vehicle moves out of PCS radar range.

SRS Airbags.

You and your passengers are shielded in a protective cabin by

no fewer than 10 SRS airbags – including driver and passenger

front dual-stage airbags that deploy according to the severity of

an impact. There are also knee airbags for the front seat

passenger and driver, seat-mounted side airbags in the front

and outside middle row seats, and side-curtain shield airbags

that stretch the length of the vehicle in all three rows. As well as

a revolutionary active front seat head restraint that lessens

whiplash injuries.

Rigid Body Structure and Impact Absorbing Frame.

The Energy Absorbing (EA) collision frame and front crumple

zones absorb impact energy in a front-on collision. While high

tensile steel reinforcements around the cabin ensure the body

of your LX570 assists to minimise body deformation, helping to

protect everyone inside.

The objective of the LX570 was to achieve overwhelming

performance that supports the driving performance of a

premium vehicle as well as the off-road capabilities of a genuine

4WD vehicle. This required a powerful and smooth powertrain.

For the new LX570, a 5.7L V8 engine was adopted exclusively

along with a newly developed 6-speed automatic transmission.

An AI (Artificial Intelligence) shift was also adopted to provide

a comfortable drive on a higher level, including road handling

control and an AI shift that is suited for driving with superior

response to acceleration and deceleration through control that

corresponds to the driver’s intentions.

All conditions, without condition.

As the LX570 has the capability to go almost anywhere,

Lexus drivers can find themselves in a huge variety of driving

conditions. That’s why we’ve dedicated the very latest in

automotive innovation to ensure that whether you’re tackling

mountainous terrain or the school run, you have the

technological advancements you need to do it in comfort,

safety and, of course, Lexus luxury.

Crawl Control.

When you’re driving slowly on rocky trails or meandering

through wet and slippery off-road conditions, Crawl Control

takes off some of the pressure. At the flick of a switch, you select

your preferred speed, and then Crawl Control maintains that

pace. Crawl Control allows you to focus your attention on your

direction, instead of worrying about losing traction.

Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS).

Multi-terrain ABS with Electronic Break-force Distribution

(EBD) works to optimise ABS control on a variety of road

surfaces such as gravel, mud and sand, in order to deliver

strong braking force both on paved roads and off-road.

Rear View Camera (RVC).

As you place your vehicle in reverse, a clear and precise

picture of your reverse path is displayed upon the Electro

Multi Vision (EMV) display. Along with the back guide monitor

providing reference lines representing the direction of your

vehicle based upon steering input (which highlights an area

50cm from the rear bumper), it allows you to determine

your clearances with higher precision.

Front and Side Cameras.

The front grille and driver side exterior mirror cameras

give a clearer view of what’s around you, and help minimise

blind spots. The integrated side-view camera gives you a

view of what’s alongside your vehicle, eliminating blind

spots when you’re travelling slower than 10-12km/hr.

Driving Performance.

Active Traction Control (A-TRC).

Giving you more traction in slippery conditions and help-

ing to suppress wheel spin, A-TRC makes rugged off-road

and on-road driving easier and, more importantly, safer.

Parking Assist Sensors.

Clearance and reversing sonars on each corner of the

vehicle and the rear bumper tell you when you’re close to

contact with obstacles, helping you manoeuvre into park-

ing spaces. An audible alarm as well as a visual image on

the EMV screen notifies you when the vehicle comes close

to obstacles and other vehicles.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

This helps keep the vehicle from rolling backwards as your

foot switches from the brake to the accelerator – so you

only have to worry about what’s in front of you.

Multi-Terrain System.

Flick the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) switch behind the shift lever

and you can tailor the drive characteristics while in H4 and L4

drive modes to suit the terrain. With five distinct settings, you can

select Rock, Rock & Dirt, Moguls, Loose Rock and Mud & Sand,

then the amount of wheel spin is tailored to suit the conditions.

Sand, for instance, requires increased slip allowing the wheels to

dig in more for increased traction, however when driving on rock,

wheel spin needs to be minimised for optimum control.

Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS).

With crystal clear headlamps due to the headlamp washers found

neatly in your front bumpers. The LX570 virtually allows you to

see round corners through its Hi beam (HID) headlamps that

emit light near that of daylight along with its low beam projectors,

redirected by the Adaptive Front-lighting System, shedding light

on what lies beyond the corner.

Total control in the rough or the smooth.

LX570 has many advanced vehicle control technologies that

ensure a precise driving experience in town, on highways and

when off-road for driving with peace of mind through gravel

and rough off-road surfaces.

In a typical Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) operation the tyre

slip ratio is maintained at a low value so that tyres do not lock.

However, with LX570’s off-road capabilities a newer concept

was required that extended the Anti-lock Braking System.

An ABS control program has been developed that detects

differences in road surface conditions and automatically

switches the ABS timing to maximise control regardless

of where you are travelling.

Crawl Control is a new innovation that allows the driver

to concentrate on steering without worrying about subtle

accelerator and brake pedal operations during rugged

off-road driving.

Adaptable Variable Suspension (AVS) includes a number of

clever features operating in the background. These include:

Damping force control changes the damping in the shock

absorbers according to the road conditions and vehicle

operation to provide a high level of ride comfort.

Vehicle speed sensitive control provides excellent riding

comfort at low speeds and improved vehicle stability at high

speeds by gradually increasing the damping force in

accordance with speed of the vehicle.

Anti-dive control applies high damping force to lessen nose

dive when braking.

Anti-squat control increases the damping force to suppress

change in vehicle posture when accelerating.

Roll movement control ensures excellent handling stability

during cornering by calculating the lateral acceleration through

the vehicle speed signal and steering angle, and controlling

the damping force.

Vehicle height control optimises vehicle ride height depending

on vehicle speed and the terrain. When stopped LX570 can be

automatically lowered to allow easy entry and egress. Driving on

urban roads and highways the ride height is set to ‘normal’ and

when off-road terrain is encountered LX570 can be set to ‘high,’

giving greater wading depth and under body clearance.

An important part of the peace of mind that comes with owning

a Lexus is the built-in warranty on your vehicle. Each Lexus

vehicle comes with a four year unlimited kilometre* warranty,

supplemented by a six year corrosion perforation warranty.
