The Business Units, with their sales and development departments, are based at the company's regional headquarters in Toulouse, France, Denver, USA, and Singapore. Worldwide market development for flame retardant applications is the responsibility of Kelvin Shen, with Richard Clark handling plastic packaging, decking and railroad ties. Frederic Jouffret is responsible for plastic automotive and pipe applications and Gilles Méli for rubber. The company says that the plant will be expanded in several phases to achieve the nameplate capacity of 60 kilo tonnes. "I am extremely delighted that we have established a Basell compounding operation in China to meet our customers' advanced polyolefins needs," says Sergio Danesi, president of Basell Advanced Polyolefins. "With our global network and local presence we are well positioned to address the demands of the local automotive, appliance and industrial markets." The plant produces advanced polyolefins marketed under the Hostacom and Hifax trademarks. Combining the cost-competitiveness of polyolefins with the performance of engineering resins, Basell says that Hostacom and Hifax compounded resins enable customers to produce value-added applications with exceptional properties such as high impact strength, excellent scratch resistance, superior paint adhesion and low thermal expansion. In addition, Basell says that its Hostacom and Hifax compounded resins can be easily tailored to meet a variety of demanding application needs, have outstanding processability and can be recycled. According to Basell, together with its joint ventures, it now has a global PP compounding business network that includes 15 countries. The Shanghai office is headed by Xiaomin Xu, and the Kaifeng office by Chen Hao. Both new offices are part of the Qingdao Almatis Co., Ltd, Qingdao. The expansion of the sales forces is also aligned with the expansion plan of the existing tabular alumina facility at Huangdao in the Shangdong province of China. The new subsidiary Piovan Central Europe, located in Vienna, will cover four distinct markets - Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. The company says that they are all emerging markets with a strong potential of economic growth. In the four countries there are 2,500 companies operating in the plastics processing sector using a total of 3 million tonnes of plastic materials per year, which is comparable to the Italian market.
