On May 5th, we will commission 8 new Stephen Ministers. They are: Marvin Crout, Ginny Kaczmarek, Paul and Susan Klein, Ann and Jim Snyder, Art and Melody Wilt.

These eight people began 50 hours of specialized training in Christian care-giving in February, and now join a team of current Stephen Ministers at Lutheran Church By

The Lake. Stephen Ministers provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to people experiencing a crisis or going through a difficult time. Stephen Ministers meet weekly

with their care receiver for around an hour to listen, care, encourage, pray, and provide emotional and spiritual support for the person. Caring relationships last for as long as the person’s need continues.

Please lift up our new Stephen Ministers as well as our current Stephen Ministers in your prayers, asking that God bless their ministry and work through them to bring

hope and healing to those they will serve.

Our congregation is one of more than 13,000 worldwide, representing 160 Christian denominations that use the Stephen Series system of lay caring ministry developed by

Stephen Ministries in St. Louis.

If you would like to know more about the care Stephen Ministers can provide, please

call one of our Stephen Leaders. They are Sharon Crout at 843 715-6024, Jeanne Thayer at 864 391-2494 or Candy Zimmerman at 864 391-4033.

Therefore encourage one another and build up each other. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Stephen Ministry ministers will gather in the

Fellowship Hall for their Supervision meeting

9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9.

Stephen Ministry Training is at 2:00 p.m. on

Thursday, May 2 and 9

Is Every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

Pampering Bags for MEG’s House for Mother’s Day. The MEG’s House committee is

part of the WIN (Women In Need) Circle of WELCA. We support through donations of

needed goods and clothing the families who take shelter at MEG’S House in Greenwood. MEG'S is the acronym for McCormick, Edgefield, Greenwood, and Saluda counties served

by this shelter for abused women and their children. Many of these families have had to flee from their homes with nothing more than the clothes on their backs; therefore

donations of personal and practical items are always welcome. Over the years we have wanted to do something special for Mother’s Day for these folks,

so we have put together, with your generous help, what we call Pampering Bags. It is easy and fun to participate in this project. Please return your bags to the church by

Tuesday, May 7 in order for them to be delivered on time for Mother’s Day. Once again, your support and generosity is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please give

Gail Oust a call at 391-5824.

Pampering Bags for MEG’s House

for Mother’s Day need to be returned by Tuesday, May 7.

Pastor Jim’s Tuesday Bible Study begins at 10:00 a.m. This month his Study will be

about “Prayer”. Everyone is invited to attend.

==================================================

Grief comes in many shapes and sizes, it can sucker punch you and you say where did that come from? Sometimes a wave of sadness, you say wow that didn’t stay as long, I

am doing a little better, and then an ambush comes! For those of you who have not experienced the loss of a child, grandchild, or spouse you may think I am a little

dramatic but believe me I am not. Other losses such as parents, grandparents, older siblings, are also difficult and hurtful. It is often helpful to attend GriefShare. Your Grief is real and you need to make the journey, however you usually would agree that

the others I mentioned first are more intense. Those losses, change the family structure! This program touches all losses: people who have lost loved ones, in all situations,

accidents, sudden death, long term illnesses, and suicide.

Our GriefShare program runs a 13 week session. It is not necessary to come every week, if you miss one you can make it up, next session. We meet on Tuesday’s in the Fellowship Hall at 3:30pm. If you have any questions feel free to call Jeanne Thayer

864-391-2494 or cell 864-323-7142.

GriefShare gathers every Tuesday at

3:30 p.m.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

God uses time in ways that are

unfathomable to us. Then He acts in wondrous ways, far more awesome than we could have imagined. He only wants us

to wait for him and his timing. Martha experienced an excruciating wait for Jesus. As we study Chapter 7 in Waiting, the

Women’s Bible Study Group will encounter Martha as she awaits her friend Jesus.

Set aside some time to wait with us! The Women’s group will gather Wednesday,

May 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall to talk, pray, laugh, and share while we learn how to “wait well.” All women are

welcome. Just come. We’ve been waiting for you!

The LMM wishes to acknowledge those who worked so hard to make the Lenten Soup Dinner on April 10th a success. Thank you to our soup makers: Marvin Crout, Paul

Klein, Bob Leonard, Jim Snyder, and Art Wilt. An additional thank you goes to Pastor Jim, Chuck and Sandy Gresham, Eric Randal, and the other “worker bees” who contributed behind the scenes. The LMM appreciates one and all and hopes that our entire church family has had a blessed Lenten season. Art Wilt, LMM President

Transitions in the Life of Lutheran Church By The Lake

One of the certainties of life is change. In the past week I have become aware of two transitions that will be taking place in the near future.

First, Pastor Emeritus Walt Wist and Jean are relocating to a retirement community in Pawley’s Island , SC. Pastor Walt, who was the Mission Developer for Lutheran Church

By The Lake, was called as our first pastor and guided the congregation through the construction of our beautiful sanctuary.

Pastor Walt and Jean have been active in the life of our parish for the past 15 years

following his retirement in 2004. Their last Sunday will be May 5, at the 8:15 service. Pastor Wist and Jean will be serving as communion assistants. The Wist's new address

will be: Lakes of Litchfield, 44 Essex Dr., Pawley’s Island, SC 29585. The second transition that will be taking place is the retirement of Linda Harris as the

organist of Lutheran Church By The Lake on June 30th. We have been blessed as Linda has shared her talent, her joy for the Lord, and her faithfulness for the past 19

years. Please keep these faithful folks in your prayers and take time to express your love and

appreciation! Pastor Jim
