How long will it take? What happens for the scan? Please inform the doctor or the technologist if you think you may be pregnant or if you are breast feeding. There are 2 parts to the test. 1. The air flow within your lungs. You will be required to breathe a gas into your lungs which is able to be detected by the camera. This will take approximately 5 minutes and you can breathe normally. The first scan of your lungs will then be taken. 2. The blood flow within your lungs. You will be given a small injection of the ‘lung tracer’ into a vein in your arm. The scan of your lungs will then be repeated. Approximately 45 minutes. Lung Scan (VQ Scan) Patient Information What Happens? This is one of the SPECT/CT at Canberra Diagnostic Imaging. The scan must be done with the camera positioned close to your body. You will be required to remove all metal objects for the scan. You will not be required to undress for the scan. A/Prof Barry Elison FRACP Bring any relevant X-rays or previous scans. You may eat and drink normally prior to the test. You can drive your car after the test. You may keep taking any medication that you have been prescribed. You will not experience any side effects from this test.
