5.6 Nitrogen N2
General properties
Gaseous nitrogen is colourless, non odorous and tasteless and at equal temperatures, is slightly lighter than air. The volume proportion of nitrogen in the air is approx. 78%. Gaseous nitrogen is not corrosive and non-combustible. Nitrogen is not toxic.
Requirements
Buhler die-casting machines must be run exclusively with class 4.0 purest quality nitrogen.
• 99.99 Vol%
• 50vpm
• approx. 30 vpm
DANGER!
Note
Use exclusively purest quality nitrogen (N2 more than 99.99 vol. %) ! Compressed air and other media are not permitted for gas filling! Under no circumstances use oxygen! Explosion hazard!
In the event that accidents happen due to neglecting of this instruction, the Buhler Druckguss AG reserve the right of recourse to the customer or to litigate against him in case the Buhler Druckguss AG is made liable.

Operating materials
Die spraying agents
CAUTION! Various die-spraying agents contain aggressive additives which may cause damage to the die-casting machines. Furthermore, the water used to mix into the die-spraying agents should meet the quality requirements as stated under Chapter "Energy connections". Water that does not meet these quality standards can, in connection with die-spraying agents, also be a cause for damage to the die-casting machine.
We reject any guarantee claims for damage caused in connection with die spraying agents.
5.8 Disposal of operating materials
Operating materials are harmful to the environment and to health.
~ WARNING! ~ Detrimental to environment and health!
These liquids accumulate in the ground or escape into the atmosphere in form of vapours.
• hydraulic fluids
• lubricants
• spraying agents
Measures to be taken:
• collect fluids in a oil collecting tray and dispose of them in accordance with the local regulations.
• let vapours and smoke escape into the atmosphere only after filtering.
Regulations: observe the local regulations.

6.1 Scope of delivery
The contents of each package as stated on the delivery note, should be checked for completeness upon receipt.
Any damage from transportation or missing parts are to be notified immediately inwriting.
6.2 Packing
Deciding for the kind of packing is also the carrying distance. If not specifically agreed otherwise, the packing is conform to recommendations for packaging. Depending on the place of delivery the machine parts are shipped open or partially packed. The packing material should be disposed of in accordance with the local regulations.
6.3 Degree of disassembly
The degree to which the machine is disassembled for transport depends on the transport provisions, the local conditions and the lifting gear available.
It is aimed at to transport the DCM as much as possible in one piece.
Usually the DCM is taken apart into following sections:
6.4 Susceptibility
During transportation of the DCM or DCI particular care must be taken to avoid damage through force from outside or careless loading or unloading.
Please take notice of the following symbols on the packing.

6.5 Preparing for transport
Before moving or transporting the DCM inside the factory:
• empty the nitrogen system
• empty the hydraulics tanks (closing and injection unit)
• tighten the transport securing bolts.
Transport the DCM according to instructions for lifting.
6.6 Accidents during transportation
In the event of an accident during transport please inform our customer service immediately.
6.7 Storage
Leave the DCM or DCI in its original packing for storage and place it where it is protected against the influence of weather.
If this is not possible the machine or installation sections and boxes should be:
• properly covered
• protected against intensive exposure to sun
• protected against moisture

Preparations for setting into operation 3/6
7.1 Objectives
• On-schedule completion of all preparation work
• Technically correct completion of all preparation work
• Cost-saving start-up
• Early production start
7.2 Organisational measures
While the DCM or the DC plant is being erected Buhler specialists should be assisted by following skilled personnel of the customer.
•
•
•
•
Pipe fitters
Welders
Electricians
Fitters or mechanics
as required
as required
as required
as required
Further, unskilled labour should be available for following jobs.
• unpacking the deliveries
• transporting the deliveries
• cleaning the deliveries
Note
If you have commissioned peripheral units directly it is to your own interest to have these units set into operation while a Buhler specialist is present.
• Please coordinate the appointed date with all suppliers !
At the time of setting into operation:
• have your own personnel available
• relieve your personnel from other tasks

4/6 Preparations for setting into operation
Instructed on site will be:
• operators
• machine setters
• maintenance staff
The time required for instruction depends on various factors:
• complexness of the DCM or DC plant
• how well the customer's personnel is informed
• will an interpreter have to be engaged, etc.
Instruction will take between one and several days.
7.3 Training
We recommend to have your personnel trained in Uzwil.
The courses which are offered can be taken from the enclosed brochure.
7.4 Production planning
For a fully automatic DC plant an extended optimization phase will have to be taken into account.
The scheduled production output will not be achieved during the optimization phase.
7.5 Quality assurance
If quality demands are set for the casting you must provide the necessary infrastructure for quality control.

7.6 Calling for a delegation
For any questions concerning preparation work please consult the competent customer service.
When the preparatory work as described in Manual 1, is completed please notify us accordingly with the enclosed fax I letter.
A delegation for setting into operation of the DCM or DC plant does not take place before we have received:
• checklist : Technical data/working materials
• checklist : Preparation of site of erection
• checklist : Energy connections
• fax I letter : Request for delegation
Note
Costs and expenses ensuing from preparatory work not being completed on schedule will be charged to the customers !
