Information about Lublin

Lublin is the ninth largest city in Poland and the second largest city of Lesser Poland. It is the capital of Lublin Voivodeship (province) with a population of 349,103 (March 2011). Lublin is the largest Polish city east of the Vistula River. It was recently a candidate for the title of "2016 European Capital of Culture". Lublin is approximately 170 kilometres (106 miles) southeast of the capital, Warsaw.

History

The historical region of Poland includes Lublin. Lublin came closer before the partitions of Poland, which is known as Lubelszczyzna. Provinces centered on Lublin existed during great part of the history of Poland. The region was, before the Second World war, one of the principal world centers of the Judaism. After the defeat of the Nazi it lost importance.

From 1999, the population of Lublin was estimated in 359.154, the highest in the history of the city. With this great growth it placed in the most important ninth city ,speaking about population, in Poland. Warsaw leads this list with 1.700.000 followed by Cracow with 700.000 citizens

Economy
