TROON PRIMARY SCHOOL & EARLY YEARS CENTRE Home Learning: Primary 4-Week beginning 30 th March Literacy Reading Spelling Writing We are learning to select an unfamiliar text to read for enjoyment. We are learning to spell common and tricky words. We are learning to create an imaginative story with a clear beginning, middle and end. We are learning to use exciting vocabulary using adjectives and adverbs. Task: Reading Challenge Read for enjoyment for at least 20 minutes each day (non-fiction). Read- “The Burning of the Rice Fields” and then answer the comprehension questions in your ‘work- from-home’ jotter. Task: Use the Active Spelling Activities (stapled in the back of your jotter) to complete 1 spelling activity of your choice, per week. Task: Using the image ‘Canine Catastrophe’ create an exciting story using adjectives and adverbs to set the scene for the reader. Using the ‘Story Starter’ can you: Continue this story about the dog that floated away? Describe what the dog sees as he is floating away? Where does he finally land? Does he manage to get back home? Numeracy Mental Arithmetic Core Learning ICT Support We are learning to improve our mental recall of table facts. We are learning to use directional language. We are learning to identify and measure angles. We are learning to use our knowledge of shape in a range of contexts. If you have access to technology spend at least 30 minutes on https://hourofcode.com/uk/learn (Hour of Code). (These 30 minutes can be broken down into 3 sessions of 10 minutes/2 sessions of 15 minutes/1 session lasting 30 minutes). Revise and recap 6 and 9 times table.
