IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE Feature Summary
Real-time performance and availability monitoring of SYSPlex and subsystem workloads and resource usage, execution and delay state information for System z workloads and transactions
Implements the “Logical Tuning Approach” - Observe - Isolate - Fix
– 1) Understand applications and their importance to your business; 2) Establish Service Level Measures; 3) Proactively Measure Performance; 4) Isolate Exceptions; 5) Correct Problems; 6) Resume Measurements (tuning is an iterative process).
Proactive exception based monitoring based on site specified thresholds -“Keep the lights Green”
“Power User” tools to enable problem correction (i.e.. Kill Tasks, Kill Threads, Memory map/zap …)
Cross product linking (launch in context) blurs the lines between products
Secure – provides user logon authentication and user product function authorization
Historical data collection, warehousing, and reporting
Dual UI strategy to meet audience needs
– Tivoli Enterprise Portal provides personalized content for most audiences and centralized product administration, 3270 for power users

Scenarios Reduce unexpected outages from z/OS asset upgrades
– See who would be impacted by an upgrade
– See which products a job is using
– See where different maintenance levels are deployed
– See what needs to be replicated to Disaster Recovery systems
Get the best value from your z/OS software budget
– Understanding product usage trends is extremely important for contract renewal negotiations e.g.
• Which products should be included in an Enterprise License Agreement (ELA)
• Product LPAR capacity restricted licenses
• Assess what would be impacted by a competitive product replacement
– Drop products that are no longer being used
– Consolidate product versions
– Consolidate similar products e.g. inherited from company mergers
– Consolidate product machine/system coverage
– Sub-capacity license optimization
– Prove to management that your budget is fully utilized to avoid funding cuts or justify increases
 Asset management for IT

Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS
● IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS provides discovery, monitoring and reporting to understand z/OS product and application usage.
● Since z/OS products are shared by many users and business units,it is very hard to determine how to reduce product license costs and verify license compliance.
● Reduce unexpected outages from product and application upgrades.
♦ TADz assists change control and operations support since you can see exactly where (systems, datasets) products are deployed and who (jobs/userid) is using them.
● TADz interactive web reporting:
● Detect products that are no longer being used and can be dropped
● Detect opportunities for product consolidation using TADz trend graphs
● Reports to assist vendor negotiations
● Product migrations made easier & cleaner since TADz can show who(userid, job name, account code) is the products and from where (datasets, LPARs)
● TADz SCRT reports enable customers to see if their monthly sub-capacity license charges are growing. Drill down details assistcustomers to move/restrict where products are accessed in order to reduce sub-capacity license charges.
● Integration with Tivoli Asset Management for IT (TAMIT) for license management
● TAMIT supports z/OS licenses and queries the TADz database for high level information about the deployed z/OS products.
