October was a good month for Lee’s Summit Medical Center and in total we are having a great year in all our pillars – employee engagement, patient satisfaction, quality, growth and finance. In patient satisfaction, we are currently performing well and our scores put us at #14 among 163 hospitals in the company. We are strongly improving in nursing and physician communication areas. The score patients are giving us for “overall rating of this hospital” is only two points from earning us top decile performance in the US among all hospitals. We can earn this! In quality, we are at 100% in core measures (AMI, HF, PN, SCIP, STROKE, & VTE). We had two fallouts in IMM so we are at 98.75%. Overall, this is great quality performance and let’s keep striving for every patient, every time – 100% in every measure. We’re thrilled the new HCA Midwest Neuroscience Institute at LSMC is open. All the specialists are seeing new patients here and I am hearing great feedback regularly about how much patients love the convenience of this specialized care close to home. Our trauma program recently completed its state survey and earned a perfect grade. Congratulations to Tina, Dr. Augustin, all the ER physicians and Cie for their leadership with this program. Construction continues and some moves will be happening soon. Physician practices will open in the new multispecialty suite (where administration was previously located). The gift shop is now open with a whole new inventory of gifts and clothing items. Administration will move into its new space near the back of the hospital, and rehabilitation therapy services will move to the Summit Ridge campus to free space for construction of our new cancer center, physician lounge and medical staff office. Construction of cardiac rehabilitation’s new space is under way and will be complete in December. We’re thrilled our new vascular lab construction is targeted to begin before the end of the year. I’m sure we will grow even more as physicians begin seeing patients in their new office space. Several new and existing surgeons have started working with our new daVinci robot. We are the only hospital in the region to offer single-incision robotic surgery. You’ll be hearing more about our new surgical robot! I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and enjoy the holiday season!
